Anyone else bothered by the Jean & Ben ending?

I just finished watching this for the first time, and I was bothered by the scene where Ben and Jean finally meet. She declines his offer to have dinner because she needs to find herself first (I'm paraphrasing here). I felt proud of her character in that moment - she is finally realizing she doesn't need a man to be happy all of the time. Then he says something to the effect of "So Saturday at 7?" and she replies "perfect".

I have two problems with this. First, this implies that he completely ignored what she had just told him and wouldn't take no for an answer. In the same vein, she throws what she just said out the window by accepting to go out to him. In other words, she hasn't changed at all because she still feels like she needs to constantly date/be with someone.

They could have either had her not say the line about finding herself and accept him right away, or he walks out the door with the implication that later on they will date. Or show some more time passing (and her feeling good about herself) before they date.

Anyone else agree?

Yes, that bothered me, too.

I think it's more to show that he could tell that Jean was just saying all of that stuff because she felt like she had to. Then when he asked her if he could pick her up, that was his way of saying, "It's okay, you can trust me." So then she said perfect because I think she was hoping he would still want to try to ask her out instead of walking away.
