What's the point of the Hattori Hanzo sword

If The Bride only actually used it to kill O'Ren, and not Bill or any of the other Deadly Vipers.

Hattori Hanzo made it seem like his weapon would be THE instrument to kill Bill, which was the only reason he agreed to break his oath to create the weapon.

And then Elle finishes Bill off with a secret kung-fu technique instead.

The sword really had very little significance overall by the end, and it became more about avenging Pai Mei and Beatrix being the actual worthy successor to Pai Mei's secret techniques.

Well without the sword she wouldn't have made it to kill Bill.

And while she doesn't kill Bill or Elle with it, it is definitely instrumental in their deaths. She by all means could have killed them with it, but pulling out Elle's other eye and killing Bill with the five point exploding heart technique was much sweeter revenge on my eyes.

Yes, she definitely needed the sword to get to and kill O-Ren. Pulling out Elle's only eye and leaving her there with a deadly snake roaming around was her just dessert. As for Bill, killing him with the 5PPEHT, was also sweet justice. She was able to kill him, but also have him realize that Pai Mei taught her the move he teaches no one because, knowing Bill, Pai Mei suspected that she'd need it someday against Bill. So when Bill asks her "Pai Mei taught you the 5PPEHT?" and she replies "Of course he did", he had to have been thinking "Oh F! Pai Mei got me after all"

I wonder why didn't more people use guns in this movie.. she could never have reached Lucy Liu's character, if the bodyguards were armed with guns instead of swords.
