Stand By Me and The Goonies.
The story is nothing alike, but it does remind me of those. A little bit of Without a Paddle in there too.

I agree with some of the others, for some reason it reminded me a lot of Stand By Me too. I guess it's not so weird when you think about it. Pre-teens (& teens in this case) out in the woods, lots of swearing and other inappropriate behavior, a dead body.
But it also made me think a lot of Elephant (2003), it also follows a group of teenagers (in a little bit different way) and has the same kind of underlying suspense that something awful is going to happen the whole time, especially if you know what the movie's about. Also seemed just a little bit similar visually.

share12 and Holding. Seriously. If you liked Mean Creek, I highly recommend it. It's definitely not as good a film, but it's got a very similar tone. It's portrayal of Loss of Innocence is one I haven't seen in many films.
