I HEARD ABOUT KAZAKHSTAN FROM THE OLYMPICS. THEY GOT KILLER BOXERS.

I THINK BORAT CHOSE KAZAKHSTAN JUST TO MAKE FUN OF ALL THE PEOPLE THAT DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT. ITS LIKE THE 9TH BIGGEST IN THE WORLD!

reply

correct,,they have great boxing school!!

reply

Correct - Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen) isn't really making fun of Kazakhstan, but rather playing on the ignorance of the "victims" in his movies.

Too bad that is beyond the general public.

reply

From this joyous guy named Pavel. He was always telling me about silk road this, silk road that.

reply

haha silk road is what got you to civilization and modern world of man kind

Math teacher wants to rock you in NHL 2007.

I'm a San Jose Sharks (NHL hockey) fan, so I heard back when Nabby became Rookie of the year, mind you, i was only 10, so it's pretty early timing, comparatively

reply

Wow , you make it sound as if Kazakhstan is almost nonexistent. Anyhow I heard of it in school (Geography). I mean just take a look at the map of the world, it's not like Kazakhstan is a small country either. I don't know, maybe I'm wierd because I think that Kazakhstan is just as normal to konw about as any other country aside from those tiny countries (mostly islands) in the middle of nowhere.

btw isn't antropov from Kazakhstan as well.
=)

reply

Not alot of NHLers from KZ
I can think of
Evgeni Nabokov,Nik Antropov,2005/06 Avalanche goalie Vitaly Kolesnik

reply

Exactly- Kazakhstan is pretty obvious on a map, and you're right, it is normal to know about it. Although I do tend to read a lot of maps, so I know those 7 '-stans' exist. . .

We fail! But screw your courage to the sticking-place and we'll not fail.

From looking at a globe when I was really young. I used to do that quite a bit. You can't miss it.

Probably in the early 80s when China was first opened up to the West and a series was made about the Silk Road. Kazakh ia also one of the monority group in China. I knew it became an independent country when Soviet Union dissolved.

reply

I been to Kz 4 times :) I have family there.

In the World is not enough video game.

reply

heard about it because of oil pipelines and a nice amount of it underneath the country. Actually the countries pretty interesting compared to uzbekistan *beep* *beep*

reply

Wasn't it one of the countries that formed after Communism fell in USSR? (I know the people were there before, but it was part of USSR, same as Georgia, etc.) So, when all those countries formed from what was USSR is when I first heard about it. I'm not trying to be rude or start an argument, but I think it's sad that so many people either haven't heard of so many countries in the world OR if they have, a movie or video game had to tell them about it. Do teachers still teach?

My hometown (Stevenage, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom) is twinned with a town in Kazakhstan. I first heard about it in primary school when I helped do a school assembly about it.
