Riley's teacher summed it up perfectly

In the episode where Riley's teacher got in trouble for calling Riley a n***a, his defense summed up black people perfectly: "If that word is so offensive why do they call each other that ALL THE TIME???"
Black people are so hypocritical about that word it's sickening.

I think you missed the point of it.

It is poking fun of the ignorance of both parties.

Not all black peoples se the word. No one in my family uses it. I have known close to 1000 black people in my life. How many have you really known? Have you ever had dinner over a black family's house? Have you ever held a black baby?

When ost people talk about "blacks" they are referring to young black males as if teen males = all black people. Most black people (and most people in general) are female and most black Americans, just like the rest of America's population, are older than 35.

I am not black. I am Ojibwe. My cousin is half black. I knew what the N word was didn't hear it until I was in highschool when it was directed at me. Damndest thing in my life. That's when I realized that ignorance and stupidty go hand in hand.

I think the original post missed the subtlety that the scene was trying to make. Hate is a double edge sword.

Maya Angelou did an interview with Dave Chappelle a while ago.

If you call poison something different it is still poison even if you slap a different label on it. It still meant to cause pain.

Since then Dave really hasn't used the N word and Paul Mooney had a similar experience.

I remember him talking about that in an interview, but that was prior to the three specials I watched where he went crazy with the word.

Not that I'm complaining about it, but I think his mind switches here and there. In fact, I think the reason Arsenio walked him off the show is because he kept using that word to an audience member.

Satirising certain aspects of people is a bitch. Like with a lot of what Archie Bunker says, people seem to latch onto that which they agree with while ignoring the criticism of that character's thoughts or don't realise that it is criticism of that mindset.

Further still, I would say most people who dislike white people using the word probably have lived through a time when hearing the word may have been a precursor to a possible beating or worse.

Regardless, like others said, you pretty much missed the overall picture for the small details. One could easily take granddad's stance on the word ("for a long time the white man called me 'n!gger' for free!") as to oppose your argument. Yet the whole episode was showing that there will always be people looking to take advantage of a situation, to further stir outrage for profit, and in the end it all becomes a spectacle of blind ignorance mixed with greed.

I don't say the word and I don't like the word but whites and other non blacks (who say the word anyway) get so pissy that they "can't" say it, it's hilarious!!

I think black comedians and what not use the word a lot for comedy purposes, but it's a myth to think that all blacks use the N-word a lot, they don't. Maybe gansta rappers, but not all blacks are gangsta rappers, thank god.

Nothing...whatever. I only said it to counter that racist pig mslady89. Now leave me alone.

I admit that I used to say the word until Richard Pryor decided to stop, saying that he felt it described "something wretched" within the black community.

Good thing I don't live in America because that is just a stupid unfixable problem. What nobody ever mentions is that by using the term *beep* in a friendly way among peers it excludes all non-blacks from a potential feeling of belonging among that group because they'll never be called that in this friendly manner (and if they do, it's like a weird accomplishment), which consequently leads to the blacks that use it to further their own community's isolation.
For a country filled with different ethnicity and culture I still don't quite grasp how there can be an American identity when there are so many divides among the different ethnicities that do their darndest to keep a separate identity from each other.

I've been called n!gga by a black guy before. It's a pretty strange feeling ha ha.

I don't like the way blood money spends.

The American Identity is about inclusion.

That's nice. I assume after posting, you went back to molesting neighborhood dogs.
