The creator of Ra's Al Ghul said that Batman Begin's take on their relationships was better than his original version

Which I can partly agree with, because the way Ra's first gets to meet Batman in the comics is not really that compelling. He just appears in his cave and asks him to help him out with something, but then it turns out that he just wanted to hook up Batman with his daughter because she was obsessed with him. The movie showed their relationships as being more compelling and driven by inner reasoning. Bruce is someone who have lost his way and Ra's wants to put him in a right direction so that Bruce could become his right hand.
