male lead should have been different

What a boring male lead! No spark at all - he just looked dead throughout. I keep imagining someone like Orlando Bloom in this role.....wow.

reply

Yuck Orlando Bloom, no way.
I thought he was pretty good.

reply

no way orlando. but someone british please. i thought it sort of defeated the whole point of a 'Brit-flic' when the leads were American. unless i'm gettin it mixed up with something else and it's not a Brit-flic at all. correct me if I'm wrong folks, I'm open to criticisms.
but i would still have like an English lead... or a scottish one...I haven't seen one of them for ages unless its a totally scottish film.

reply

how bout Jackie Chan? lmao! sorry - i just wnt to of my fav ppl to be in a movie together and i know itll neva happen - 'cries'

reply

The story clearly indicates that the girls were American born and they moved to England around their teenage years. Shortly after they moved to England is when the Tony Peepants episode happened and from then on the girls just didn't get along much anymore. So why would the daughter who has moved back to America hire an escort from England? It makes total sense that they do not have British accents.

reply

I agree that Orlando would have been a wrong choice.
But just so you know, Orlando Bloom IS British - he's from Kent!!!

reply

It's actually an American film. In the commentary with Debra Messing she noted that it was cheaper to shoot in England.

reply

Yeah, I was disappointed they didn't have British characters, as the characters in the book are all British. And they changed the names too, if I remember rightly.

reply

Yes. I thought that his face had the same expression all the time and he just 'spoke' his lines. I've seen more action in a piece of wood. My daughter raved over this film but I found it disappointing

reply

oh hell no....
dermot is an amazing actor, and he is a FOX, and i think he plaus the part very well. Orlando Bloom would be SHIAT in this role !!

reply

I agree Dermott did amazing - he was supposed to play a sauve and sophisticated. He also had to be distant. I thought he was a great choice besides what a smile.

reply

I love McDermot. I thought that he was an excellent choice. I loved him in My Best Friend's Wedding as well.

reply

whaaaaaaat dermot was amazing!!!

reply

agreed. Dermot Mulroney is serious-sexy. Orlando Bloom still looks like a teenaged boy. He's a male escort - did you want him to be a goofball? I don't know who said there was no chemistry. I was feeling plenty.

reply

Dermot was fine in the movie and very buff too, they should have expanded his nude scenes...the problem with the movie was the script and Debra Messing playing her Grace role instead of developing a new character

reply

I think Dermot is great!!! Can't say that enough. I think he was awesome in this movie, can't imagine anyone else playing the role as well as he did it. He is a very multi-talented man and I don't think he has ever gotten the credit he deserves for his many talents,,,loved him in My Best Friend's Wedding too. As his character called for someone very subtle, very educated, very charming and a hunk to boot,,,,he handled it all and more.

i LOVED Dermot in this movie....I adored how he played Nick Mercer...:)

reply

Did we watch the same movie? I can't imagine anyone else playing that role than Dermot. He was subtle, sexy and sublime. Sorry, but couldn't disagree with you more!

reply

He is the man for this role, because Orlando Bloom wouldn't be a convincing man who can make a woman's heart burn, het is just the 'cutie' blabla.

reply

Although I think Dermott did an absolutely amazing job, I think the only other person I can really picture doing this role is Johnny Depp.

reply

I actually thought Dermott is pretty suitable for the male lead, although it'd be nice if he can have more face expressions. I can't really picture Johnny Depp as the male lead probably because everytime I see him in movies I think of his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean which is a hilarious character. I don't know...this is just my thought. =)

reply

i totally agree lyselyn ...i absolutley ADORE!!! johnny depp and love almost movie he does but even though i think he could pull this off but i really dont see him playing this kind of role i think Dermott did a awsome job fell in love with this character, like many others said his role called for that kind of acting so he did a goood job .... i didnt think i was going to llike this movie but i just watched it and it was amazing!

reply

Having just seen this film, I do so agree with the original poster. What a very dull actor. There was no spark at all.

Dermot was cute and charming. I didn't see the bit where they fell in love though - they seemed to fall in love all of a sudden without the build up, but you can't blame Dermot or Debra for that, it's the script or editor's fault for missing bits out.

reply

Finally someone said it :)
I also didn't see when and how they fell for each other or real chemistry between them. I was disappointed and had trouble to believe that he could fall her. I'm not sure if it's the script or the performance of Debra Messing but her character was lacking charm and charisma. She looked miserable half of the time and pathetically funny the other half. I like her in Will & Grace but sadly not in this movie.
Dermot was good except for one scene where Derba called him Yoda of the relationships and challenged him to show his talents. I think this scene didn't work for both of the actors. Dermot wasn't convincing and Debra was looking simpy funny plastered against the car though I thought they aimed for her being smitten with his charm. Anyhow it might just my twisted perception and I would gladly hear that I was wrong. :)

reply

The car scene was awkward.

reply

Yeah they just fell in love all of a sudden. I think the sex scene was supposed to be when it happened but it was really ridiculous that either would just wake up and be like "you're my soulmate". It needed to be developed more.
