Why Obadiah wanted Tony dead?

Since he ordered the hit before Tony's change of heart I don't exactly get why Obadiah wanted him dead. Without Tony Stark Industries was pretty much useless.

I think he got tired of being the second in charge

It looked to me like Obediah wanted to sell arms more widely, and to bad guys and not just good guys.

Yes I don't understand rich men in charge. What's the point in making weapons to defend your country then selling them to your enemies for back handerx?????? What the *beep*???? What's the point, if you want to stay safe and ahead of your opposition, don't take back handlers!!

reply

Because he's eeee-vil!

If I agreed with you, we would both be wrong!

reply

He could have killed him when he had him paralyzed but he let him live for some reason.

Meh, it's probably not worth nitpicking a mediocre movie anyway.

reply

Obadiah didnt' kill Tony when paralyzed him because maybe it would be easier to find out who was the killer. I just think so.

reply

By taking the arc reactor Tony was going to die. He didn't know Tony had a second one.

reply

He wanted Tony dead in order to pursue his illegal arms sales plans without interference, and because he figured he'd been keeping the company running for thirty years and it was time he owned it, and because he wanted Tony to shut up and listen for once, and contemplate what Obadiah has to say. Unfortunately, what Obadiah had to say was so illegal that leaving Tony Stark alive after would be a bad idea.

Calling disagreement hate is childish.

Because he was able to build this in a cave. With a box of scraps.

He was tired of Tony's hedonism and childishness, and figured having him be killed after a weapons test would guarantee it would be a best-seller to everyone while martyring Tony.

While i'm not surprised Obadiah would turn out to be the villain, I didn't know that he was a character in the comics. His character, the man who took care of a company his friend founded and had it taken away from him just because he's not the son of the owner/founder, is an old story.
