You're all nuts. This movie was great.

I sat down tonight to watch a small horde of zombie flicks. Been an avid fan of the genre for many long years. "Dawn of the Living Dead" was just horrible, not even in the "so bad it's good" category. It just plain blew. Then Dead Meat comes up next, and honestly, I'm expecting cheese, complete with generic zombies with bad makeup, a godawful script, --y'know, the usual. Right away I notice the camera work is good, and I get my hopes up a little. The story starts out at a slow pace, and yeah, it generally stays that way, but even a fast-paced script can be bad. Making sure someone's talking or shooting something in every scene doesn't make a movie good. Dead Meat kept a good pace, and I enjoyed the dialogue, which didn't attempt to play to the audience for points, and just kept it real. The FX were just fine. Nothing to win any awards, but most importantly it didn't "look" like the usual stupid, cheap effects. They got the job done. I've read several negative reviews here, and some of the points mentioned I find to be uninformed and misleading, and if that's the mindset one has going in, yep, you won't like it. The music: someone said it sucked. I think you're nuts. The music was perfectly timed, very moody, fairly original, and actually fit the scenes it was supporting. Well done. Another point mentioned was that it was trying to use elements from other films. That's a load of crap. What you're seeing is someone that cleary was inspired by other directors, and has created his own style from those influences mixed with his own ideas. There weren't any "homages" here, but there was plenty of applied influence. A touch of John Carpenter, a huge does of Sam Raimi, etc. This guy could go far, and I'd like to see what else he'll be doing in the future. Someone else said the acting was bad. Well, I've acted, and I've watched more movies than God (did I just hear thunder?), and not one person in this movie was obviously acting. Whether you like the words the script puts in their mouth or not, or love/hate the characters themselves, if you can't tell that they're acting, they've done their job, and done it well. I enjoyed this cast, even down to the Coach, and being an American I couldn't understand much of anything he said. I'm usually pretty good with accents and dialects, but his brogue was so thick and vowel-mangling that it was virtually incomprehensible most of the time to the western ear. Professor Higgins would commit suicide after a few days with this guy. :) And someone also said the humor wasn't good, or at least cloned gags. Well, ok, that's your opinion, and I won't argue the piont because of that, but I will say I see it completely differently. I absolutely loved the way they remained deadly serious throughout, and never once cracked an intentional joke, even when the situation was something that, if you saw the scenario written on paper, you'd fall over laughing at how ludicrous it sounded. Another point in this movie's favor, if you think about it. They actually pulled it off, used the almost satirical elements, and kept it all serious without losing their composure. I don't want to give spoilers, but the whole cow tie-in, and subtle gags along the way that stemmed from that (sleeping while standing in the field, the evil were-cows, and so forth) were just priceless, and didn't detract at all. I wish I could see a Gary Larson review of this movie somewhere. I think he'd be in heaven. :) Anyway, bottom line is that this really was a pretty decent flick, if you like this sort of thing. I can tell you I was wanting more when it wrapped up and the credits rolled. That's always a good sign. Would love to see this spawn sequels, if done by the same crew.

And, just for fun, a few possible titles for sequels:

Dead Meat II: Night of the Cud
Dead Meat II: MOOOOd killer
Dead Meat II: Bossy's Eire!
Dead Meat II: The Bloody Isles

Dude, you want to see bad, Biker Zombies Form Detroit. Dead Meat on the other hand was great. I loved the mad cow explanation, The coach speaking in Glaswegion was lovely. I lived with a Scott for awhile and I could never understand a word the drunk @#$% said. The gore was realistic enough, The acting better than average for the genre, and finally an ending which I felt was brilliant. I have seen hundreds of undead movies, and for every 20 piles of cow dung You get one masterpiece. Dead Meat was one of the masterpieces

I just watched the movie today and I thought it was great, I wasn't expecting much after reading all the negative comments, but I really enjoyed it.
The cinematography was really good and I loved the way the characters remained completely serious when they easily could've cracked some lame jokes which would've ruined the humor in the movie. While the acting wasn't perfect it was no where near bad. If you are a zombie lover then I highly recomend this underrated gem!

This movie has a clear 80's feel, and I liked it. I am SICK of Hollywood sh*tfest of fake computer effects, hot young people, loads of hip hop bravado or a nasty pop/rap/cocky rock song at the ending credits. This movie had none of that crap because it has 80's B horror movie style, so I am happy with it.

It's not a great movie but it's much better than your average Hollywood horror movie, and that's quite a point

I'm gonna agree that the film was entertaining. Wasn't the best zombie film I've ever seen, not even close, but it was well-made, with reverance to the genre, and overall everyone involved seemed to work hard at making the film fun. It was cheese, but the good kind.

Not bad watching while posting at sleeping zombies part killer stuff so far nice intro why there are zombies no radiation (haveing worked at one last month I hope I don't turn into one) nice effect no cgi zombies just good old school make-up.By the way Dead life wasn't so bad ,just badly done.

Good to know I'm not the only one who hated Dawn of the Dead but enjoyed this. Switch the budgests on them and I bet we'd have four sequels to this and no one'd heard of George Romero.

Loved this movie. It was great, for a low budget one, I think it deserves all my respect.
The setting is scary, the acting is ok, and the scene when everything's dark, is as scary as hell.
Even though the make up wasn't that good, this mixture between RE 4, Night of the living dead, and Burial ground, is ok, and made me *beep* on the pants.
The cow infested by the desease was absolutely great, I mean, who in the hell would've thought a COW could be thaaaat terrifying?
Some scenes are a gory fest, and they fit perfectly for the film, maybe the plot is a little bit weak, but all in all, the movie is worth a try.

I love it too - I've watched it 20 times or so since buying it a couple of months ago. I'm not even going to qualify my opinion by saying "for a low budget movie..." etc. Someone said, and I completely agree, that it must have been created by people who had a real love for the genre. I do, I'm a zombie fan, and this movie really appealed to me. I think it's scary and hilarious. The scene where the four are in the jeep and they hear the distant "moo"...and then you see the "menacing" hoof...priceless.

Come on. Zombie cows!!! How can you not love a zombie cow??

This film had a couple of good moments and a few things id never seen before ie a zombie cow dragging a woman through her car window, but over all the film was pretty pathetic it starded of kinda ok until i saw the zombies i hate zombies with super strength etc it ruins a zombie flick for me.

Oh well another one for the pile of *beep* zombie films of which there seem to be so many.

Is it just me or is the zombie genre the most dissapointng genre ever? For every good zombie film there seems to be a hundred god awful ones too.

I quite liked the only thing that didnt work is that it couldnt decide whether to be a comedy or a horror one moment its all scary horror then the woman chucks her shoe twenty yards and hits that zombie in the eye 2 take hime out. Then there getting attacked outside the cabin back 2 horror then a killer cow attacks the woman in the car back 2 comedy ithink that kind of spoiled it.

I was surprised and delighted by this film. I expected something bad with an unnecessary profusion of blood and gore. I expected a meaningless plot with dumba$$ characters sputtering sarcastic wisecracks before blowing the brains off a zombie. Dead Meat was enjoyable, suspenseful and intelligent. I appreciated the acting and the characters in it who took their parts seriously. Sets, props camera work, lighting, make up and directing were also terrific.

Reasons why it was so creepy:

1) The farmhouse in the beginning was well photographed with the sunlight coming through the windows just so right!
2) The children zombies with paper party hats and bloody faces.
3) Zombies sleeping on their feet.
4) The sound the zombies made as they breathed.
5) The use of maggots, especially on the plate of food.

It was unique because we see a small handful of strangers fighting off zombies with

1) no weapons except a club and a shovel
2) no little or no shelter
3) no shoes

The one thing I didn’t care for was the cow thing. It was also ridiculous that it smashed the car window (car windows don’t break like that, by the way) and pulled that woman out.

Personally, I think it’s more scary
1) not knowing what caused the apocalyptic mayhem.
2) When all of a sudden the world goes insane.
3) More and more radio and TV stations suddenly stop broadcasting.
3) Being forced to killing your neighbors, friends and loved ones because they turned dead but still move to bite a chunk of flesh out of your arm.
4) Teaming up with total strangers in order to survive.

As civilized people, we are brought up to respect and care for ourselves and others. We also respect and honor the dead. Life and death are sacred. Imagine the devastating psychological effects a character goes through if they survive a zombie movie. They probably wished they hadn’t.

I like this movie. It probably breaks the record for most eye mutilations in a single movie, not sure if that has anything to do with me liking it but i sure notice a lot of damage being done to zombie eye balls.

It wasn't all that bad. I just felt it fell apart at the end. The ending was a confusing mess. But it definitely had its moments. And Zombie Cows are funny. It was better than alot of the junk out there.
