Are there actually parents out there that do this to their children?
Or was it so disturbing purely for the extra shock value it would add?
I live a fairly sheltered life i guess if this movie is real.
I find it hard to believe that these things would happen to this extent. I mean, I know they happen but this movie was just on another level...

The story is a literary hoax, but I'm sure stuff like this DOES happen. That doesn't mean it's at all common though. That's my biggest gripe with the media. They report stories and make movies about really aberrant behavior because it's entertaining or "sexy", then people start to believe the world is really like that. People do get struck by lightning sometimes, but that doesn't mean you should go hide behind your couch every time it rains.
