Dan killing Carrie

Illogical how it happened. The end of her attack on Haley and Jamie ended when it was still bright out. The very end of the episode where he kills her it's nighttime. So Haley, Jamie, and Deb all left, without making sure the police were called and talking to them, without knowing if Carrie was for sure alive or dead, and then Dan just hung out there until nightfall waiting for her to wake up?
