nearly perfect film. but one thing always bothers me....

i love this movie. i have ever since i saw it the first day it came out in theaters. but one thing that has always bothered me with the film concerns the 'hey you' cover. can we really believe that bernard, the ultimate know-it-all and intellectual, would not have heard of the song and called out his son immediately? it was and is pretty damn famous and popular. really one of the best songs of all time. anyone else bothered by this and have any thoughts?

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. It was very popular as was Floyd with people like him especially. I mean, if you're watching Blue Velvet then chances are that you're into Pink Floyd or at least know who they are.

I didn't notice the shot in the movie on first viewing that shows, "Pink Floyd - Hey You" song notes and such. So, when Walt said he wrote it, I believed him.

On repeat viewings, I noticed it, but still, I have a feeling that most people in the audience stayed quiet till after the performance.

See, there ya go. For people (which includes myself) who listened to classic rock radio and owned that album, it seems like it should be as well known as "Hey Jude" or something. But just not true for a lot of people. Eisenberg himself didn't know the song until the day the talent show scene was shot.

My god, there are so many of you who can't get beyond the "Hey You," thing. First of all, THERE WERE PEOPLE IN THE MOVIE WHO KNEW THE SONG, and knew WALT didn't write it. PLUS, he was found-out!!!

Do you all hate science fiction movies because you can't get beyond the fact that we really don't have a way to get people to Mars, yet? I went to graduate school when the song came out, and I guarantee you that some of the people I knew there never heard of Pink Floyd, or ever listened to that song. Get over it. Those people exist!!!!!!!

It was only so so. And Daniels's character was a real dick.
