This truly is one of the greatest zombie movies ever

The original is TERRIBLE. I saw it, and it bored me to sleep.

I think it's a "had to be there when it came out" movie. It is quite terrible by most criteria except nostalgia, I would say. I don't buy the whole social criticism about consumerism angle. It's barely in the movie! I find it more likely that he just thought that would be cool, paid lip service to consumerism without really saying anything interesting about it, and critics and time and legend has confected its present rep.

Thankyou I've been saying that for ages! its just one or 2 throwaway comments.

And yes , when it came out it must've been great. i didnt see it till a few years later when "Day" came out and fx were a little better , and I still thought it was great.

i agree that it is one of the better zombie movies. i think it was the first zombie movie that had sprinting zombies? not sure. i know a lot of people didn't like that, but it made them a lot more scary to me, imo.

You can't persuade fanboys. You'd be better off trying to convince a wall. ~CodeNamePlasmaSnake~

I think that honor belongs to 28 Days Later which was released two years before this one. But I might be wrong. But I agree, sprinting zombies filled with rage instead of shuffling ones made them more of a threat to me too.

Running or at least fast moving zombies first occurred in Dan O'Bannon's Return Of The Living Dead.

Indeed, a much better movie than this could ever be.

I personally don't like running jumping zombies. Due to shear numbers you would get chomped. With slow movers, there's always a chance at survival.
28 Days Later was the exception to that rule. I like d the way they pulled that off. Technically though they weren't zombies in 28 Days Later, they were still alive.

This remake was awful

reply

I agree. For me, this is one of the rare instances where the remake is better than the original.

Anyone who ever ever ever writes the sentence "anyone who disagrees is a moron" truly is a moron. A very pathetic one, "soft" to the touch.

1. Learn to respect other opinions.

2. Don't insult those who don't agree with you.

3. Steelman your opponent's argument to strengthen your own.

4. Concede when you are wrong.

5. Don't lie. Ever. Not lying is the only way to prevent yourself from becoming a "just following orders" type.

My favourite zombie film EVER!
Does it mean that by agreeing with you, anyone who has ever called me a moron is wrong?

reply

i am generally not much of a fan of these types of movies but i have to agree it is one of the best. in fact, i don't think i can find a zombie type of movie i like more overall.

i just finished re-watching Dawn of the Dead (2004) a moment ago on Jan 16th 2017, which the last time i have viewed it might have been when it was new or not far from it(say when it was new or late 2000's), and it held steady for the most part but it loses a little steam late into the movie and then finishes well enough. i am not sure on how many times i have seen this movie but i would probably guess no more than three times (maybe four max) although i know it has to be at least two for sure at the minimum.

6/10 (a mild Thumbs Up) ; while i have not seen the original 1978 movie chances are i would prefer this 2004 movie more overall.

p.s. for whatever it's worth... i am a 37 year old male.

I barely remember it after my one and only viewing over a decade ago, but even then I didn't find much to enjoy about it. I might watch it again sometime, but I'm certainly not racing out to give it another shot. I just don't find zombies interesting or scary
