Saw Nine Queens, should i see this?

I saw Nine Queens a lot time ago and liked it. I didn't love it, but it was good. I can't really remember a lot of the movie but I know that I didn't like it until the end when you realize what just happened. But I could be wrong. I might have loved the movie. I have a bad memory. The only reason I want to see Criminal is because I love Maggie Gyllenhaal and John C. Reilly. I'd be interested to hear from people who didn't like Nine Queens but loved Criminal or liked both.

Yes you should. It is well worth becuz of Diego Luna, he's so hot.

"Nueve reinas" (Nine Queens) is much better than "Criminal". (BTW, the English subtitles on the "Nueve reinas" DVD are at best mediocre.)

As for remakes, sometimes they're a disappointment, sometimes an improvement. I certainly prefer Denzel Washington's "Man On Fire" (2004) to Scott Glen's (1987).

I agree, but then there's this obvious rip-off.

Much worse: The abysmal "Point Of No return" actually came out while "La Fem Nikita" was still playing in some theatres and getting heavy rotation on cable.

I think criminal was well-done. Still, having just seen Nine Queens, I'm a little stunned at the pure laziness of the remake, and the nerve of the producers.

I saw "Nueve reinas" in Spanish (sans subtitles). A friend watched it w/ the subtitles turned on and then saw "Criminal". He liked the remake better 'cause he didn't have to be looking at the TV every single minute. So, maybe that's a reason to re-make foreign films: easier to multi-task when you don't have to read subtitles.

Speaking of remakes: "Abre los ojos" (original) vs. "Vanilla Sky" (remake);
"Hombre mirando al sudeste" (original) vs. "K-Pax" (remake). Any opinions?

I liked (not loved) "Abre..." but hated "Vanilla Sky". I liked both "Hombre..." and "K-Pax".

If English speakers do not want to read subtitles they should have dubbed it

It would have been better to dub it instead of remaking it, 'Criminal' was really bad.

I agree. Nueve Reinas is much better. The political and economical climate of Argentina serves as a very good background for the movie, and that background is completely lost in the remake.

Besides, Gastón Pauls and Ricardo Darín are by far better actors than John C. Reilly and Diego Luna.

i saw 9Reinas and its much better
the performances of the actors in Criminal are pretty bad

reply

don't bother. Criminal is quite bad.
I like Maggie and John as well and while Maggie was right for the part she gets very few minutes on screen. Also John was quite bad in this film. He is a good actor but he couldn't get into this character, his performance here was poor, one should be pissed at his character (like one is at Marcos in Nueve Reinas) but you end up feeling sorry for him.
How one perceives Ricardo Darin is how one perceives Diego Luna and how one perceives Gaston Pauls is how one perceives John Rielly.

No.
Honestly, I'm not against the idea of a remake, and I love John C Reilly, but this is really a carbon copy of the original, minus the feverish rhythm. Seriously, the only things that were changed work less good than in the original.
