what in the world was up with the scene about halfway through where the main brunette girl was suddenly making out with

a guy? that didn't make any sense because they went from running away from the two monsters and then cut right to this scene in the most abrupt and nonsensical way. there was no sense in them doing that at that moment when they were running for their lives.
