Was Mary-Kay jealous of Vicki?

At the beginning of the movie, Mary-Kay approaches Walter during their lunch break and tries to strike up a conversation, much to her avail. At this point I couldn't exactly determine whether she was interested in him, being nosy, or if she was genuinely trying to be friendly.

Later on, Mary-Kay notices Walter and Vicki together, at which point she appears to become somewhat hostile toward the both of them, particularly when she bluntly warns Vicki in the restroom that he might be "damaged goods".

Was Mary-Kay acting this way because she was truly concerned that Walter could be dangerous, or because she was jealous that he wasn't interested in her?

I think she was just trying to befriend him at first because she was nosy and wanted to know more about him and what he had done. Her hostility towards him in the end I believe comes from the fact that she truly was disgusted with him. If you notice when she's looking him up on the sex offender site they show a shot of a framed picture of children on her desk. Either her own or relatives of hers, I believe she thought he was dangerous and didn't want to be working anywhere near him.

Oh I will completely disagree with you on that. I think Mary-Kay was attracted to him and was coming on to him and he rejected her. She became jealous when he became interested in Vicki and that is when she dug up the info she later used to attack him!

If he had been interested in her, no one would ever have found out about his past!

I never got that Mary Kay was jelous of Vicki. In fact, I don't think it could have occured to her. Mary Kay is a much more polished person, college educated, from a good family, Etc., and works up in "the office". Vicki, who drives a forklift, dresses butch, (she doesn't even wear makeup) and works down on the floor was probably never in her radar. Mary Kay didn't come on to him or even act flirty when they first met, she was just trying to be nice and make the new guy feel included. I think she was one of those people who all thier lives, take it upon themselves to welcome the newcommers. She is the one who organizes the employee picnics, secret santas, makes sure everyone's birthdays are remembered, (Hallmark loves her) and she keeps everyone "in the loop". When Walter responded in such a hurtfull way, it went against her sensibility as "the includer". It also might have felt familiar, like one of the thousands of slights that African Americans have to endure. And the bottom line for her is he so outwordly rejected being part of the group! Viewing walter's actions through the lenses of her life would make him someone that would be the splinter inder her fingernail.

Mary-Kay was so pea green with envy she could hardly stand to look at them being happy.

So when she printed up his sex offender page & posted it for everyone to see.. on one had she was doing it to pay Walter back for turning her down.. however someone might have invited him over for dinner & unknowingly put their daughter in danger.

Sorry but if you don't get that Mary-Kay's initial motivation for digging up dirt on Walter was due to jealousy, then you need your movie viewing credentials revoked. It's all made very clear...watch the scene in the lunchroom where she keys on the two of them eating together (and seeming to be getting along). Immediately after that we see her trying to "warn" Vicki. There is no other possible explanation for her having such a sudden aversion to Walter (esp. coming on the heels of her trying to flirt with him a few scenes earlier).

Now you could make a case that her later attempts to expose him as a pedophile were well intentioned (although I doubt it), but we're clearly meant to see her initial motivation as jealousy.

She was just a jealous type of person and suspicious about Walter since day 1.
