Why was the parole officer such a jackass?

I didn't get why he would walk in acting nice and friendly, then couple minutes later, he'd explode on him by saying how much he hates him. I hate pedophiles too, don't get me wrong, but that was a wee unprofessional on his part.

He served to represent more than just one man being a detective, or parole officer or whatever.

He represented society as a whole, and their attitude towards pedophiles.

It shows no matter what people try to portray outwardly, they have a deep disgust for Walter and pedophiles, and Walter knows this.

But what about the fact that there exist places, and indeed, societies, that, in some or other ways, actually DON'T hate pedophiles and instead blame the victims, are those societies simply less than civilized whilst others are, somewhat, trying or being MORE civilized at least in theories, meaning that, on the very basic and superficial level, everyone IS different, but it doesn't mean automatically that one party is better than the other though sometimes it can be?

Does it actually make sense?

reply

I think if you saw even a small percentage of what he has probably witnessed you'd be a jackass to people like Walter too.

reply

Did you miss the line where he said he seen a baby nearly torn in two after it was raped by a pedophile? I'm pretty sure you would hate them all with a passion as well.

reply

Was he really justified in his thoughts though or did he go at least a little over the line though?

The greatest trick the Devil has ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist!

About the last part - but in this film, Walter actually feels surprised and then incredibly upset after Sergeant Lucas leaves, almost as if he didn't know or expect that he would react this way.

And he didn't act as if he knew it too well either and felt as if he stepped over the line.
