Painfully underrated

Not like IMDB ratings really matter (look at Deadpool). 7.2? Good lord. Is it because you had to sit in one spot for 3 hours?

A true passion project from Mr. Jackson. Still shead a tear when Kong slips off the building.

I'd say it's appropriately rated, and 7.2 is NOT a low rating.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the critics score (or "Tomatometer" as it's commonly known) still sits at 84%, but those reviews were back from 2005 when the film was fresh, new, and the majority of film critics were on the Peter Jackson bandwagon because of The Lord of the Rings. However, the audience rating, which is more contemporary with today (as anybody can submit their rating at any time) sits only at 50%. So if you think it's IMDB rating is low, think again.

It's deeply underrated imo.

IMDB rating is a joke in many cases but here? OMG!
So low!

Yes there are scenes that should have been cut (all humans vs. dinos scenes and monologues by characters that are not important for the story and just dissapear) but that´s about it. I personally never mind "extended versions of a move if I like it :)
...but Kong was Peter´s dream project long before Lotr...and he came back to it with more experience...hugely talented team and more MONEY HONEY

the result is probably the best remake in a history of Hollywood

So much love just screams at you from the screen...
so much talent...so much emotion...

I LOVE THIS MOVIE...they don´t make good adventure movies like that anymore

I don´t think you can call a 7.2 underrated. An 8 would have been better, but 7.2 is still solid. And even while the movie is so great (I really love it) I can still understand why some may think it as "unbalanced" or "corny". Take the scene at the ice ring near the end. Was that really needed? The part on Skull Island can be to long for some and the begining 40min of the movie to cheesy for other people. I saw this movie only yesterday and I´m very, very glad I did, but I would never give it more than a 8.

Seems painfully overrated. Meh, it's okay. But too much CGI crap. By this I do not mean CGI all by itself, but the painful lack-of-physics, lack-of-sense that can very often occur by overusing CGI. Just because you can have 1,000 dinosaurs/bugs using CGI instead of 10, does not make it a good idea to actually have 1,000.

Sig, you want a sig, here's a SIG-sauer!

Oh I've loved this movie since it came out. But returning to the board now I wasn't sure what to expect of the rating. 7.2 isn't bad at all. Considering all the crap I keep hear people throwing at it I expected around 5 lol.
I voted 8 I believe and I still stand by that. It's close to the 7.2 rating too. It's flawed and scenes like the stampede is so stupid it blows my mind. But I can see past it. By now maybe even for nostalgia reasons.
I know it gets a lot of hate for taking forever to get to the island, but my favorite scenes are onboard the Venture before they even get there. I have always loved movies that allows us time to bond with the characters instead of giving us a mindless action movie which there is enough of. I never minded the attention they gave Englehorn, Hayes, Jimmy and Lumpy. I loved that they did. I loved Anne, Denham not so much. Driscoll eh alright.
The New York scenes though kinda felt like a whole new movie. I hated that we just never heard anything more from the Venture crew and overall the whole New York scenes felt like the end of Return of the King XD (and I adore LotR by all means). It just never ends.

So anyway I think it's rated pretty correctly on this site, but get's a lot of hate I don't agree with.
