I think Keanu takes a lot of undeserved grief.

I liked Constantine. I did. He certainly has an otherworldly light to him.

"I think Keanu takes a lot of undeserved grief."

Like when he was accused of being the killer in The Gift? Well he was a wife beating red neck at least.

"He certainly has an otherworldly light to him."

He's from Canada. He just needs to spend more time in the sun and away from the igloos, and that pale look will soon cease.

I thought that this was a great comic book adaptation and i thought that Keanu did a great job as Constantine. I don't know if i can see anyone else playing the role as well as he did

I think he's a pretty limited actor, in terms of the range he seems able (or willing) to portray. I do however think that his limitations had no bearing on this part. I think it worked perfectly for the part of Constantine.

This is the only role I like him in that comes to my mind.

I happen to agree.

He kind of reminds me of Nic Cage, he's not the greatest of actors out there, but somehow I seem to enjoy pretty much every movie he's in.

Funny you mention Nic: I often think of these two together. I don't think they're good actors, but sometimes I like their movies.

I second this opinion. Nicholas Cage is also one of my favourite actors, yes he's not the best actor in the world with acting skills that make you go "wow!" but there is that charisma & likeability he has that makes his films enjoyable. Keanu Reeves is cut out from the same mould. :)

and I happen to love Keanu in this film. in fact this film & his performance is what made me into a full-fledged fan.

reply

I don't think he's a particularly versatile actor, but in this film he was absolutely spot on. That smirk when he's in the lift and she asks him if he's going down . . .

he is great in movies like this and the matrix. but when he does realistic roles, i feel his IS a bit flat. i dunno.

Apart from the tattoos and the nonstop chimney, hes exactly the same as Neo. The guy can only play one type. Different setting and all that but watch this, Matrix, Mnemonic, and you see three exact the same character with a little habitual differences.
But he does seem to pop up in alot of cool movies, movies were acting isnt required i guess

I agree with the OP. Keanu is a solid actor and he did a very good job in this movie. His acting style is different from other actors and maybe some people don't seem to understand it. That's all right because he always does his best in his roles.

Don't be silly. Film companies don't put just anybody into their $100 million dollar movies. They carefully pick actors who are most likely to bring them a profit. Keanu has proved himself over and over as one of those few guys who can do it.

reply

Exactly, bsharporflat. Keanu definetly is one of those actors that has that charm, quality, and presence to bring in the audiences. And unlike what most people say, he is a very good actor.

To be honest, I LOVED this film. I agree with Nicholas Cage comment because I'm a big fan of his as well and I've enjoyed pretty much every film I've seen them in. Keanu CAN act though, though he's sorta typecasted as a guy who CAN'T act well, his performances in Devil's Advocate, The Gift, Street Kings, A Scanner Darkly & The Matrix movies are some of the BEST I've seen from him. It's sad that most people still see his acting from Johnny Mnemonic and the Bill & Ted movies.

I liked Constantine a lot as well, as a matter of fact I liked all the films Keanu has been in. The Devil's Advocate and The Lake House just to name a few. This film is really good, I never miss it when it's on air.

I think Keanu is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood.

I agree all the way, and all the heat he takes borders on laughable for me. He was great here.

Keanu single-handedly destroyed this otherwise great movie. A miscast if there ever was one. The character Constantine was based in Sting (he even looked exactly like him in early comics) who has one the most cynical smiles you can ever show (try seeing Dune to see what he's like acting). Keanu has like no smile. He can barely smile. Constantine is a perplex character with much cynicism and dark humor, whereas Keanu is a door. He acts like this tormented soul, suffering his way through the movie and wasting any jokes and smirks in that uninvited sorrow. Loved almost everything about the movie. Couldn't barely stand looking at Keanu as Constantine without feeling anger. And trust me, I'm not a Keanu hater. He was just terribly miscast to portray his doorlike qualities, that can be such a asset to him.

Way too much hate on Keanu. Watch The Devil's Advocate. If you don't think he's good in that, you obviously can't judge movies.

I also feel Reeves did a great job on "Street Kings".
