Other guilty pleasure movies..

I consider this to be a guilty pleasure movie; a flick that you know has all kinds of problems, you wouldn't put it in a list of your favorite movies, but you still love to watch inspite of it's failings..

Some of my others would be...

Roadhouse
Red Dawn
Point Break

(inspite of the coincedence, i really do not have a Patrick Swayze or Keanu Reeves fetish...it really is just a coincedence).

Totaly agree with you on Riddick. I didn't think of it at first, because compared to my other guilty pleasure movies, Riddick could be considered fine cinema.

True dat :) But I enjoy it all the same. Vin Diesel is certainly no Brando, but movies are like food; sometimes you're just in the mood for junk food.

That is a fantastic quote, if you don't mind I think I'll be using it from now on ;)

Tequila, be my guest. Great user name, by the way (though personaly, I'd have gone with bourbon or scotch, but tequila is fine too).

I disagree with your premise - I think Constantine is FAR better than any of those in terms of story, acting, and general filmmaking. Yes, even starring Keanau. ;)

That being said, guilty pleasure movies include

Pitch Black
Death Race 2000
Halloween 3 (damn, that one's bad...)

reply

Don't get me wrong, patrick; I think Constantine is a much better movie than the ones I mentioned as well. Those were just a few examples of my idea of a guilty pleasure movie. While Constantine is far superior to Road House, etc..it still does not come anywhere near the qualifications of a great movie such as Apocolypse Now Lawrence of Arabia, 2001 or Pulp Fiction, which are among some of my favorites. Also keep in mind that Constantine automaticaly has a few points shaved off for straying from the source material as much as it does, but it's still a fun movie.

reply

Ah, I didn't get that - thanks for clarifying. Yes, I'd agree on all counts, then. Except I'm not guilty for enjoying Constantine; I'm sort of an evangelist about it to my friends! ;) In fact, when I just do the very simple mental juggling of forgetting that he's supposed to be British, it gets even better...

Pulp Fiction is the definition of Guilty pleasure movie... (Guilty pleasure for everyone in America, but still Guilty pleasure)
That is a movie that you would say is good, but it has a lot of faults and it looks not that good even.

reply

Yes, "Halloween III"! I'm not a fan of slasher movies, so that particular entry is actually my favorite of the franchise.

How is Source Code a GUILTY pleasure? It's way smarter than most blockbusters.

OP -

Most of the guilty pleasure films listed are good films - maybe not great, but nothing to be ashamed of liking.

You want guilt?
Here it is:

All of the Brat Pack films (no excuse as I was in my mid-twenties when they came out & I'm not American).
Clueless (even less excuse as I was 34 when it came out, I'm 51 now & I still love Cher's wardrobe).
Dirty Dancing.

Cold Mountain, and I'm usually a shoot.em.up, gangster flick,\super-hero film kinda guy.
I read the book first and thought the movie did it justice and them some...Especially Renee' Zelwegger's performance. It was nothing short of brilliant.(Didn't she win an Oscer for that role???)
