Acid Pad scene

First, I want to say that I am in love with this movie. I loved the plot, the characters, almost everything about it...

But I was a little disappointed with the acid pad scene and I was wondering if anyone else was. Its the scene where Rose plays the film of her and her family when she was a child and Thaddius grabs her and she pushes him out the window.

Now I think everything that happened in this scene was important for the story, but I felt like it was very rushed and disorganized and stuck out much more than the other scenes.

I didn't like how there was no lead in to Thaddius grabbing Rose, it was too sudden and the mood didn't seem right for it to happen yet. I also didn't like that suddenly Catherine appears out of nowhere as soon as he hits the ground. That wasn't believable at all. And lastly, I understand the importance of Catherine finding out that Rose planted the snakes, but the timing of when Thaddius says it seemed all wrong and awkward to me.

In all, I felt this scene had important information for the rest of the movie to continue but I don't understand why it felt like there were so many errors. It seemed to me like it was edited down, maybe there was more to it but it got cut out because of length? Anyone else notice this?

I think the whole point of that scene was to show how different things had turned out from what Jack imagined as his perfect micro-world. When Rose did the intro for the movies she even said it, with a smirk nonetheless. She was like "Isn't daddy such a naive idealist?" Then Thandius pounces on Rose and we get a glimpse of the filmmaker's view that as great as the idea was, it could not be executed to satisfaction; that chaos will ensue sooner or later because of human nature. That's what I got from it anyway...

your right, that scene seemed a bit rushed. but RedBerry said they were both tripping, so maybe Thaddius was just dillusional. but Kathleen should NOT have been there. and Thaddius would not have been thinking about the snake after he hit the ground.

yeah, i felt it was a little rushed too.

If you watch the movie again, try and notice how the filmmakers protrayed all the "action." The movie wasn't about the action, the sin, the kiss or whatever, it was about the consequence. When something that is bad or socially inappropriate, it doesn't happen in an organized and orderly fashion, its usually fast and uncontrolled. The effects are long-lasting.

Although normal filmmaking means "prolonging" the action on screen, I think the director was making a point with the way they showed it.

That said, I agree that it would have had more impact and "moodful" had they played it out differently.

What was the song that was playing?

I dont think Thaddius trying to kiss Rose was out of the blue. You see him stare at her quite a bit during that scene.

It was a wild scene, and it went wonderfully UNTIL she pushes him out of the window; the action was too forced and too fast, and the editing was messy. The slow-motion shot of him falling looked like something out of a Lifetime TV movie. I thought the imagery leading up to it was great, though. The family footage reels playing all over the walls, combined with the characters and the music was great. The motivation for her pushing him was somewhat understandable; he made unwanted advances toward her and was kicking Jack on the floor when he tried to intervene. The way the push was shot/edited was the only downfall to the entire scene.
