Movies You Love That Others Don't

Heres a list in no particular order:

I Heart Huckabees

Art School Confidential

Fatotum

Most of these are independants, so I guess a general public dislike comes with the title. I'll think of some others later.

reply

Please don't bite my head off for this, but Garden State definitely doesn't count here. Liking Garden State these days = cool. Maybe it's just with the people I'm around, but I know people who will say they like Garden State even if they don't because it somehow gives them credibility.

Yes, because obviously no one likes wes anderson but you. he is a wildly unpopular director, and has never made a successful movie or recieved any honors or awards for his work. you, only you, ccox8, have any appreciation for his films. you complete utter *beep* moron.

reply

[deleted]

I like wes anderson! What do you mean his films aint successful? Royal Tannenbaum's , Rushmore and Darjeeling Limited both received quite good reviews. Futhermore if he was such an unpopular director where would he gain the money to produce his films and hes has some brilliant actors in his films who would not choose to work for him if he was such a terrible director as you say he is. And finally it is not nice to be abusive to someone just because he/she has a different opinion to you. That should be something you learnt a long time ago.

reply

i can't tell whether or not this is sarcasm.
i love wes anderson's movies, as well.
his quirky, imaginative sense of humor is great!

If you think that everyone likes Wes Anderson movies you are obviously deluded. This thread is asking for movies that a person liked while others didn't. Maybe his friends didn't like them, but he or she did. Chill.

reply

maybe they just have stupid friends. at least they like wes anderson. give a brother a break.

reply

ok...someone's always got to be a dick. let the person have their opinion. the point is to mention movies that no one else likes.

as for movies i like that no one else does...im just gonna keep those to myself, kind of embarrassing. although i will hint that they're made by another anderson

reply

I'm guessing not Paul Thomas...?

"Did you just call me Coltrane?"

reply

haha I think you are getting worked up by the definition of "others." The person is allowed to put it on their list. Perhaps it's popular where you are, and where that person is, it's not popular. Don't you look silly...

reply

The Fountain was great, and I think is a little unappreciated. I don't know too many people who like My Own Private Idaho but I personally like it.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Requiem For A Dream are pretty big films. Especially Fear & Loathing. That film has gotten some incredible attention within the last five years than it has since it's release, I think.

Welcome to the Dollhouse

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Hostel, Hostel: Part II

reply

Magnolia (love those frogs!)

Atlantic City

Being John Malkovich

The big Lebowsky

The Hudsucker Proxy

Crimes and Misdemeanors

reply

I haven't seen the first or the last two, but Being John Malkovich and the Big Lebowski, along with Eternal Sunshine and Welcome to the Dollhouse, are definitely on my list. I Heart Huckabees is in there as well. Someone else said Zoolander, and while I don't particularly enjoy Stiller in that role, Heavyweights is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I'm also rather partial to Anchorman, but I definitely can understand why people would bash me for that. I think there are very subtle comedies that far outstrip the "humor" of the actual jokes. The Truman Show, Curse of the Golden Flower, and American Psycho are all movies that, in my circle of friends, at least, are not really understood, and therefore liked. They are some of my favorites though. I'm also a big Lord of the Rings fan, which seem to have gone out of style in the past few years. I still love them.

reply

I used to never dislike a movie. Even the B-movies. I thought each one had either a particular character that was interesting, a good plot, cool cinematography. Then, I turned 19.
Now that I'm 28, it has actually become difficult to find a movie that I like. Let alone love. It's a little easier now that thinkfilm and some of the other independent production companies are in the spotlight. It's all Miramax's fault, though. They started out making movies that were indie but loveable. Then, they turned into a powerhouse and put out crap like "Down To You."

There are still a few guilty pleasures out there:

I Heart Huckabees

The Covenant (I know, I know, but the guys were hot)

Grey Gardens

A Little Trip To Heaven

Candy

Jesus' Son

Waking The Dead

Horns and Halos

Waking Life

2 Days in Paris

Bodies Rest and Motion

Polish Wedding

NorthFork

Big Fish

The Myth of Fingerprints

The Village

Closer

The Last Time I Committed Suicide

Five Senses

**I did hate "300" and it seemed like most people liked it. There is still a part of me, that under 19 part that thought b/c everyone else liked it I should too, so I thought the effects and "mood" of the movie was pretty cool; but, it still sucked in general.

reply

[deleted]

I love "Down to You". LOL!!!

reply

A lot of these movies are pretty popular, like most people appreciate Kaufman scripts, and most people liked Closer. But i will agree with the Darjeeling Limited, that one got a lot of hate for some reason, but it's up there in my top Wes Anderson films.

reply

That is so eerie Urban_acheiver1991
I just downloaded those exact two movies together. I think it was during a sudden impulse of nostalgia.
But that is just so random, I mean HOWARD THE DUCK and MARIO BROS?? This surely is not just a coincidence, like the african door man. lol

One movie I would like to add is Zoolander. It is so idiotically outrageous that it just cracks me up.

Jimmy Fallon movies--ha. why does everybody HATE him! He can be somewhat funny:)

Pretty much anything by M. Night Shyamalan. Except the last one. I was really disappointed in that. It was still entertaining in parts though.

The Village (i thought there were some really beautiful subplots)

Signs (one of my all time favorites, people just laugh at me lol)

The Lord of the Rings (ppl come up with really weird reasons why the movies suck but they rock fyi)

Overboard (lol, it's just a silly movie that I like to watch sometimes cuz i'm weird!)

Sleepless in Seattle (it's my guilty pleasure chick flick, okay? and i happen to love this movie. Hard to explain why but I do. So *beep* you. lol)

Coffee and Cigarettes (ppl think it's boring, but it's pretty good)

Girl with a Pearl Earring (a bit slow, but fantastic!)

The New World (My date undestood the movie, but nobody else gets how beautiful it is)

I absolutely LOVE The Fountain, and yes it was widely unappreciated. Garden State is my favorite movie ever and I've got a lot of friends who just didn't get it. Of course I Heart Huckabees, (that's why we're all here right?). Interestingly enough, American Beauty though it got great reviews and won a bunch of awards, there is literally not one person I personally know who liked it, and I think it's amazing. My guilty pleasure that NO ONE likes is Xanadu (bring on the cheesy 80's musical...oh yeah, and don't forget the roller skates).
