Hellraiser VII: Deader or Hellraiser VIII: Hellworld?

I didn't got to see Hellraiser VIII, yet, but in your point of view, which one is better: Deader or Hellworld? (I know, everybody will say that the first Hellraiser is the best....:)))

reply

OK, I've got finally the answer to my question. I just saw Hellworld, and I liked it more than Deader (Deader was really boring...ZZZzzzZZZzz).

So far Deader is my favorite Hellraiser sequel and Hellworld is pretty much the most dissapointing movie I've ever seen...
Well, the original is still my favorite!

I had to quess at the Deader plot and I liked Hellworld. I liked it for being a horror movie, not a Hellraiser movie. Pinhead is not in it a lot so if you want Pinhead only watch the first 2, but if you want a tolerable horror movie than watch Hellworld. Deader they can keep, I still have so many questions about that one!

Has anyone else heard any progress on the proposed HELLRAISER series(and YES will feature Doug Bradley as Pinhead)?

I liked Hellworld, but you have to just go with it and not expect it to fall in line with the "Hellraiser Mythos".

Deader in many ways is superior, however, in that it has a (though adapted from another screenplay) better script more in keeping with the mythos, and better special effects. Its like they had one solid budget to do both movies, spent the majority of it on Deader, and blew what was left on Hellworld. I mean, the budget for Hellworld was so low, the infamous "Pinhead decapitation" scene was done because they still had the actor's rubber head prop from another film, and thought they just had to use it, and they couldn't come up with anything more creative than Pinhead going up to him and chopping his head off. Come on, Bota.

I havent seen Deader, because no local video store has it. but i saw hellworld last night and thought it was pretty good. not the best one, but not the worst one.

You pretty much have to watch it and see for youself. as people can clearly see, all the movies are a matter of subjective opinion "This ones the best" "No no this one is the best" "Are you stupid, that one is the worst".

You even have different groups of people that want less pinhead or more pinhead.

I'd say he had the most screentime in hellraiser 3 and the least in hellraiser 5 (he appeared once as the guy opened the door and about the last 5 minutes of the movie)

Its like what happened to Freddy, in the first movie he was in the shadows, not seen alot, but was at the end, then in later movies, he became the comic relief.

lets just all be thankful, the movie wasnt called "Sadomasochists From Beyond The Grave"

It really kills to read things like
"Pinhead IS Hellraiser!!!!"
when clearly, he's not.
Go and watch the original again. Pinhead appears about 5 minutes. He has a few memorable lines, and then the movie is done (except for the Dragon part).
Even better, read "The Hellbound Heart" by Clive Barker (wait, wasn't he the guy the MADE the movie and STARTED the franchise? And then subsequently made the bad judgement of selling the rights...).

Hellraiser is about desire, greed, lust, human flaws and crippling shortcomings that shape and ultimately can destroy the human soul. It's not about gore, or cleavage, or even cenobites. Of course they're cool. The are cool because they are so rare. If the cenobites kept tanking around the entire movie like Jason or Freddy, the thing would become unbearable.
Except for Pinhead, what dialogue would they have except for *chatterchatterchatter* "uuuuuuuuuuuugh..." and "We'll tear your soul apart!"?

Naturally, the last 4 movies, except maybe Hellseeker, spelled doom for the franchise. It's simply not original anymore, and the scripts used are poor adaptions from stories that had entirely different agendas.
Still, I think Hellworld actually manages to pull off spanning the gap between teenie slasher and cyber horror. Or it falls slightly short of that. The last Pinhead line is a cheap shot, but maybe the entire thing will bring some kids who've only had to crap like Scream and Japanohorror like The Ring to watch a couple of really good movies like for example Hellraiser 1.

As for the question about the Hellraiser series: There are persistent rumours about an animated adaption of the Tortured Souls. Some sites also claim that Dimension is bidding for the rights on Undying.
However, with Barker currently busy with the Abarrat series and his line of Jump Tribe Plushies, I don't think it's going to happen soon. The former is a really enjoyable read, if you can't stand the Harry Potter crap. For the more mature minded, I can easily recommend Barker's "Coldheart Canyon".

btw MediSin, i dont agree: The Ring is a great (but a lot different from HR) Horror-Movie and the Scream-Movies in my opinion are not teenie slashers, but very intelligent and funny postmodern Meta-Horror-Movies (Thanks Craven!).

I actually liked Inferno and Hellseeker a lot and think, they are A LOT better than Hellraiser 3 + 4 (but of course worse than 1 + 2). I recently saw Deader and Hellworld. I think theyre both ok, but liked Deader a bit more (Hellworld looks too much like a teenie slasher the first hour and really good is only the last 1/2 hour).

Deader!

Deader sucked a bit less then Hellworld, but both are like the worst horror movies I've seen.

i liked hellworld, more then deader.

Apparently you are one of the fortunate people who didn't see "Alone in the Dark"

reply

In my opinion... they should've stopped at Inferno... and also shouldn't have made #3... 1&2 are the best... bloodline was necessary because it explains Pinhead's future... Inferno had its' creepy moments... the rest of the scripts should've been nuked, I saw Deader... it was completely pointless showing how Ice fails because it's apparent in Bloodline that he failed because Pinhead isn't dead in that one (yet), as for Hellworld... well I didn't even bother with that one because Hellworld sucked enough as it was... honestly Deader had what like 5 minutes of Pinhead?? wow... they should stop making these films NOW

reply

"bloodline was necessary because it explains Pinhead's future"
Why on earth do you think it's necessary to explain Pinhead's future? Bloodline sucked. 1 is the best, 2 is a close second, and Deader is the only sequal that had any intelligence and style to it whatsoever. You say it only had 5 minutes of Pinhead, but basically all the Hellraiser movies have about 5 minutes of Pinhead.
