Sally's look...

at Cher when she lost Best Actress is classic. She had won the Best Actress-Drama at the Golden Globes a few months before the awards so she thought maybe she had a chance. Cher and Olympia Dukakis also won Globes that night. They also attended the awards while most winners did not. Their attendance legitimized the Globes and thereafter most nominees and winners attended.

This was bad news for the Oscars because most of the time, the Oscar winners had alrady won the Globe and their sppeches were more or less "tried out".

At any rate there is no listing on IMDB for the 45th Golden Globes and, though most winners were not present, there was a great performance of Marilyn McCoo & Restless Heart crooning Madonna's "Who's That Girl?"

Sally Kirkland's scowl, followed by (much too late) turning on a smile (at about 1.35 on the video), is one of the classic Oscar bitter losing moments, along with Samuel L. Jackson mouthing 'shit' when he lost for Pulp Fiction.
