Why did they have Al Michaels and Ken Dryden recreate their commentary on ABC from 1980?

Didn't having that decision make things sound fake and artificial? Plus, there's no guarantee that you're voice is going to be the same as it was roughly 24 years earlier. Al Michaels circa 2004 (at least in my imagination) had a quite deeper sounding (less nasally) voice than the one back in 1980.

I'm guessing that they had Michaels and Dryden recreate their commentary to better match the on ice action that was shot for the film. In the first film about the Miracle on Ice from 1981, the filmmakers literally took the actual footage and commentary from ABC's broadcast and strategically edited them into close up shots of the actors.
