Saw Departed first?

I saw the departed in theaters, and thought it rocked. Some buddies and I just watched Infernal affairs the other night. I thought it was a cool flick, what struck me the most was how many scenes Scorsese kept near-identical in the adaption. Anyway... did anyone else feel like seeing the Departed first made IA a little less good...

You would know all the plot twists, you know whats going to happen, etc. Also... I think Scorsese definitely spent more time on character and setting (Boston) development). I think I transfered a lot of these pre-conceptions and such to IA, since they really fast forward a lot of that. (IA does about 30 minutes of the Departed in 10 minutes).

Thoughts?

I watched The Departed first. Watched it about a couple of years ago. I thought it was okay, a little stiff, not really feeling it, but still a good movie overall.

Tonight I finally got to see Infernal Affairs for the first time. To me it started just like The Departed, stiff. But the second half of the movie really set the difference. I really felt for the characters, especially Tony Leung's character. The ending was just great, nothing like The Departed's typical Hollywood type of ending.

In my opinion, Infernal Affairs focused more on the humans emotions, the dilemma, someone's self-worth and identity, questioning what is good and what is bad, that sort of thing, hence the Buddha's saying at the beginning and the ending of the movie. The Departed focused more on the actions, the plot twist, and getting viewers entertained Hollywood-style. But that's just what I think, don't get your panties in a twist.
