Like pretty much every Stephen Sommers film, it's a piece of entertainment first and foremost before anything else. And that's why I love it, as I love almost all of his movies. Sometimes I don't want to invest myself in a sweeping epic... Sometimes I don't want to analyze an intriguing character-study... Sometimes I don't want to spend hours dissecting an avant-garde experimental piece.

No, sometimes I just want to be entertained, and films like Van Helsing are perfect for that. Loved it when I first saw it in theaters as a teen. Still love it now as I'm approaching 30. And I'll probably still love it years from now in my 70's.

Love this flick. It ain't Gone with the Wind, but it's a TON of fun.

I agree! It's like watching a video game (Castlevania) and just plain fun, if you can enjoy it for what it is.
