Sad how so many people think this movie is better than the series...

IT'S NOT!!!!

This movie was a *beep* joke. I bet Paul and David, who appeared at the end of the movie, also thought the same thing.

I've never heard anyone say the film is better than the original series, and yes it is a joke - or more accuratley an affectionate spoof. I'm sure Paul and David also understood that.

I'd describe it as an affectionate parody - my impression is that that is what it was supposed to be; I thought that was pretty obvious, so I'm certain Soul and Glaser knew/understood. The original series had a touch of the tongue-in-cheek about it, after all.

It made me laugh, a lot.

Better than the original? Naw. But it wasn't trying to be. It was a joke, a spoof, an homage, a parody - not a remake. It is a totally different animal.

horrible down the line, especially snoop dog as huggy bear.

This thread is hilarious; the idea that there are people who have some kind of reverence for the original S&H TV show is mind boggling.

The show was very mediocre TV twaddle. The movie is an absolutely brilliant parody. The only real objection that anyone has been able to make is that the script is too intelligent for many viewers. They watch with with a sense of confused bewilderment, utterly missing the gut-busting hilarity of this movie.

You got to pity the fools who don't get it, and as for the people who are outraged because their lowbrow 70's TV trash is being mocked - don't you have a re-run to watch?

THANK YOU!!! Up to now, I've avoided this board because anyone I've ever heard talk about this film loved it. I figured any negative comment I made would be considered trolling. But it's running on one of my satellite channels just now, (never wanted to block a TV channel so bad in my life) so I decided to come see the board. I am very glad I'm not the only fan of the series who hated this piece of crap. Yes, the series had humorous aspects, but it also had deadly serious plots. One episode that stands out in my mind is the two-parter "The Set Up".
The Charlie's Angels films weren't spoofs and were well received. Who decided that S&H had too many cliches to make a good straight forward adaption? The Miami Vice series had as many cliches if not more and look at the spectacular film it turned out to be. Of course the series creator made it, too. When I heard S&H was going to be a movie, I said "Alright! It's about time!". When I heard who were playing the leads, I said "Hmmmm...Okay. It could still work...". After hearing reviews and trying to sit through the first 30 minutes, I just sighed in disgust and disappointment, then desperately dug through my boxed up reading material until I found my cherished S&H paperback novel series.

Sam, if you've got weapons lock on that son of a bitch, TAKE HIM OUT!!

This movie was a total disgrace to the original series. Stiller and Wilson aren't funny in anything they do. I'm not sure how they even get roles in Hollywood.

I chose not to view this movie. Why? First of all, SNOOP DOGG as Huggy Bear?!?!? Really?!? That is a slap in the face to Antonio Fargas! Snoop Dogg is insulting to women. Next you have OWEN WILSON as Hutch?!? This guy is a loser that needs to spend lots of time with a shrink so he can get his head on straight. Mr. Wilson should not be acting until he has his head on straight and his life and act back together. And to think of Ben Stiller as Starsky makes me want to cry. I had a big crush on Paul Michael Glaser during Starsky and Hutch's run and I cannot conceive Ben Stiller in his role without getting the urge to cry. I liked Ben Stiller in Night at the Museum and Night at the Museum 2 but it is really sad to think of him playing Starsky. Next, in the Series Starsky and Hutch were considered two of his best detectives by Dobey but according to what I've read, this movie put them down as a couple of great big LOSERS and Dobey can't even stand them?!? In the series, Dobery repeatedly states that Starsky and Hutch are his two BEST detectives - and a man that asks them to look for his kidnapped daughter tells them Dobey said they were his two BEST detectives. The idea to make this movie had to come from the mind of someone who likes to scoff and look down respected shows. He/she also thinks that this is the way of the world and that everyone is a great big cynic that looks down on everything with contempt like them. Well I am not one of them, and I refuse to waste my money on such drivel.

This movie totally sucked!!! I love the series and I usually like Stiller and Wilson, but apart from the car, their clothes and haircuts, almost everything seemed totally wrong - not a hommage, not even a parody, just an insult to the original series!
Snoop Dogg doesn't hold a candle to Antonio Fargas' coolness in the way in moved and talked.
Stiller's Starsky and Wilson's Hutch didn't have anything in common with the original characters, they just played their goofy selves once more (I don't mind that in other films but here it was just sooo wrong). It was like Zoolander and Hansel playing cops. They seemed like two complete idiots. It totally lacked the light hearted-humour, the close buddy-bonding including the way the teased each other, the occasional -but important- emotional and serious moments...

IMHO even Beverly Hills Cop has more in common with the Starsky and Hutch series than this crappy movie!

Awww, poor baby.

I doubt whether the people think the movie is better, they just have a sense of humour.
