Mark

[spoilers ahead] Couldn’t find it in me to like the character Mark (played by Peter Sarsgaard). I was kind of conflicted about him until he made his little speech about taking pride in being financially self-reliant and refusing to take money from his friends despite his difficult circumstances. He’s a grave-robber and shoplifter for heaven’s sake! It would be one thing if he stole to survive but he appears to use the proceeds for extras like drugs and “investments” such as his Desert Storm trading card collection. Just a garden-variety asshole rather than a lovable loser, IMO. I felt like he didn’t rate inclusion alongside Sam and the father in the montage of Andrew’s reflections on his trip home near the movie’s end.
