This movie incorrectly paints all Christians as...

(1) Homophobic
(2) Anti-Semitic
(3) Vandals
(4) Haters of pregnant teens
(5) Narcissistic
(6) Haters of the handicapped
(7) Liars
(8) Hallucinogenic
(9) Psychopathic

I understand what the producers were attempting to do with the whole "hypocrisy" angle, but at the same time, they sent a horrible message to the world. Mandy Moore's character was too over the top and she played a ridiculous, cartoonish "Christian Everyman."

I totally got a lot of the humor, but a lot of the other situations just fell flat. What they did here was support the stereotype of a small percent of Christians. By weight of comparison, it would be like the producers making a lengthy film about black people eating watermelon and fried chicken and having no positive traits whatsoever.

Sadly, we live in a time where it's "hip" to bash Christians and this movie is just one item in a long line of subtle attacks.

Mandy Moore's character was a shallow, self-absorbed twit whose faith matched her personality. She was portraying a high school stereotype, not a Christian one.

Mary, her mother, Patrick, Dean, and possibly Roland were all Christians, and none of them really displayed those traits.

The movie bashed a certain type of person - the judgemental, unquestioning, there-is-no-grey-area type. Not Christians in general.

If someone depends on a movie to define "all Christians", they are proving themselves to be dumb and lazy.

As someone who grew up in Christian schools and churches, this movie CORRECTLY portrays many adults AND teenagers and their way of thinking. It may be a little over the top at times, but it's as close to reality as we're going to get in the movies (in my opinion).

This movie is pretty d*mn realistic as far as my history with the Christian religion goes.

Well in reality, only a small percentage of Christians are real Christians, the rest are psychos that are caught up in their own bible world that they forget reality and try to follow word by word with out trying to figure out what makes sense and what doesn't.

I'm a believer, not so much a Christian, only because the word it self is so overrated these days. I read the bible and try to be honest and kind to others, but not stupid. I'm very open minded and I don't care if someone does drugs, is gay, is pregnant before hitting 18 or is covered with tattoos. The bible says "don't judge" so why do self proclaimed Christians judge so much? If they follow every rule in the book, why do they keep forgetting this one?

The thing that makes most Christians look bad is the simple fact that they do more judging than praying. It's hard not to judge, no matter in what you believe, but having an open mind helps minimize the judging thing.

Overall, this was such a funny movie because it was very real and I really enjoyed it.

This movie CORRECTLY paints some PEOPLE as...

(1) Homophobic
(2) Anti-Semitic
(3) Vandals
(4) Haters of pregnant teens
(5) Narcissistic
(6) Haters of the handicapped
(7) Liars
(8) Hallucinogenic
(9) Psychopathic

This is a movie about people. Not specifically christians. You choose to make these broad statements but one or two characters had these traits and many of the others people in this film did not agree with them. It would be the same in any setting. You would find people who are hateful, ones that are nice and others that make outrageous paranoid statements claiming everyone is bashing you!

Two main characters were harsh believers of christianity that missused it, three that didn't missuse it and then a whole school who were nearly indifferant. Ovbiously you are paranoid and insane if you see this film as anything other than an entertaining story about people. Not christians or catholics or jews, but people. With faults and flaws. With problems and prejudices. They were a representation of all people.

How do you not see that this is meant to be hateful? Did you look past all of the positive characters when making this blanket statement? I guess so. Even Hillary Faye learned from her mistakes and became a good person at the end. So what is really your problem?

I believe this movie was shining light more on those Christians WHO ARE those top 9 things. And less so on bashing Christians.

If it gave you the impression you were being bashed and painted as one of the above 9 things, then there must be something you do that makes you ashamed. If you didn't do anything wrong as a "person" and "good Christian" then you wouldn't have felt this movie was offensive.
