The acting in this movie is criminally underrated - from much of the cast

Thomas Jane does an excellent job showing a wide range of emotions from happiness to anguish to brooding anger to surprise.

And the list goes on. Fantastic acting all around. Deep budget restrictions may have been in place, but they did an amazing job assembling a top tier cast.
