Lots of cringeworthy scenes in this one

Apart from the obvious Yule ball fiasco I thought I would list some of the ones that particularly stood out

- 'I love magic' followed by a stupid grin
- All of Fred and Georges attempts at humour were dreadful
-In fact this playground humour pervades a lot of the later potter's, which is partly Rowling's fault. For example the 'potter stinks' seemed completely random and childish

-The beaubaxtons entrance
-Harry crying over Cedric's body. Yes he would be upset but it is completely out of character for harry to be so ostentatious.

Those badges were made by the Slytherin (or possibly Malfoy). They also wore it since the Slytherin hates Harry as much as they hate the Gryffindor house. The Hufflepuffs also wore it since they thought Harry was stealing their glory.

Well maybe because he's the reason Cedric died. And he's still traumatized after facing Lord Voldemort and seeing his ghost.

Yeah, a lot of it is just too much and over-the-top. I think Mike Newell either missed or flat-out ignored the "mundane" aspects of magic in the books and just wanted to make a full-blown fantasy. That was Columbus' problem too, but it mostly worked there to sort of sell the whole thing, especially the first movie. Cuaron did a better job mixing up the really crazy stuff with the "normal" everyday magic like the adults casually doing simple things or Dean accidentally walking through a ghost. But then Newell took it right back up to 11 with "WHOA OMG MAGIC IS SO FREAKING AWESOME" in every single scene and had everybody act all intense and hyper and it feels like they're trying way too hard. Then IMO Yates brought it down almost too far to where nothing seemed all that cool, especially in HBP where there are no ghosts or paintings or anything and it was just kind of a normal castle.

they didn't sai magic is awesome all the time ,just harry at the begining and its even because harry doesn't know everything about magic ,so he probably didn't even saw that tent before ..it was cool that tent

I don't agree with this. There was cringeworthy bits, that I agree with. Off the top of my head, when Harry spat out a drink when Cho looked at him. I also hated how rushed this movie felt, but this stuff I can't agree with.

I love Magic-I liked. Its something that Harry would say and be a captain obvious abut.
Fred and George-yes, sometimes their things aren't funny, but the feet off the table and the reaction to Ron and McGonagall dancing are the only bits I can think of and I thought it was mildly entertaining, so again I don't agree.

The Potter stinks was my favorite scene mainly because it was an important part that transferred from the books. It was NOT random. I don't understand what you're talking about there. The students were upset because they thought he put his name in the goblet to get more fame and attention. They were upset because they wanted to put their own names in and couldn't do that and farther more, Harry got away with it again while the same wouldn't be said for them. Also, they didn't bother to explain this in the movie-Hufflepuffs get no glory. Usually it's Slytherins and Gryffindor's getting that, so when Hufflepuffs thought Harry was taking that glory from them, they were upset about it, which made sense. Yes, they were childish a-holes about it and most of them should have been punched in the face, but it certainty was not random, it made sense why they were acting like that towards him.

Yes, it was childish and that was the point. Harry had no one on his side and no one believed him, so it made it harder for him to handle things on his own. Everyone or mostly everyone had turned on Harry, so on top of having to deal with this tournament that he didn't want to enter that he cold die in, he had to deal with it on his own to top it off.

As for Harry crying over Cedric, I thought it was spot on, he was just tortured in a graveyard and had a friend die defending him, it made a lot more sense for Harry to cry whether in grief or relief at finally making it home when he thought he wouldn't, either way it's better Harry shows emotion rather than just being a robot unable to fee anything from what just happened. Of course he was crying as he was overwhelmed from all the emotions he just felt and had been bottling up for the past year.

Right, not pompous at all then.

Funny... cause I thought this was the better version (the movie, not the book or story) in many aspects comparing to all the others! (apart from Azkaban, perhaps)

'It's a port key.' 'Harry, the cup is a port key!'.

Frankly, all of Pattinson's deliveries are so contrived. 'Not a bad place for a bath.' fml

What's wrong with that line?

Those not familiar with the book would have no idea what the cup was.

Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.

The only film that I felt had cringe worthy scenes was Prisoner of Azkaban. And the graveyard scene was freaking amazing.

"I really wish Gia and Claire had became Tanner" - Honeybeefine

I don't agree with this at all, this one is my fourth favorite in the series and I find there to be nothing cringe.

I'm surprised there has been no mention yet in this thread of Emma Watson's overacting. She does it in all the movies, but it was particularly cringe-worthy in this one, especially the scene with Hermione and Ron's argument after the ball. Their tones/emotions didn't match at all. He was so blase and calm and she was hysterical.

reply

I agree she overacted but in her defence I think many would probably have reacted in a similar way to the character. Ron was a total d*ck in this movie/book, he was lucky she (or Harry for that matter, earlier on) didn't punch him in the face à la Malfoy.

Also surprised there was no mention of Michael Gambon. Every scene he was in was cringeworthy.
