Lots of cringeworthy scenes in this one

Apart from the obvious Yule ball fiasco I thought I would list some of the ones that particularly stood out

- 'I love magic' followed by a stupid grin
- All of Fred and Georges attempts at humour were dreadful
-In fact this playground humour pervades a lot of the later potter's, which is partly Rowling's fault. For example the 'potter stinks' seemed completely random and childish

-The beaubaxtons entrance
-Harry crying over Cedric's body. Yes he would be upset but it is completely out of character for harry to be so ostentatious.

Well I know I sound so repetitious, but read the freaking books! If u do that, the movies are like, oh ok that's cool but, not the whole story. U only get maybe 50 percent of the story by just watching the movie

reply

I'm gonna be evil here and say every one of these movies made me ill except Prisoner of Azkaban because Gary Oldman carried that *beep* thing the whole way, like only Gary Oldman can (and he wasn't even the lead role, that's how weak these movies are compared to the novels.)

reply

I thought Kenneth Branagh really worked in Chamber of Secrets, and Richard Harris was perfect. There are number of performances from Robbie Coltrane to Jim Broadbent to Alan Rickman that are well cast and make the characters feel real.

reply

How can he carry it the whole way, when he only appear at the start of the climax ?

reply

The only scene that made me cringe was the graveyard scene

reply

The graveyard scene was so bad.

This was actually the weakest movie of the 8 for me, which was a shocker because Goblet of Fire was my favorite of the books after the Deathly Hollows.

reply

"The graveyard scene was so bad"

I actually thought this was the best scene by far of this otherwise over the top, overacted, poorly edited mess of a film for me. Too bad the scene sucks away any drama with Fiennes attempting to sound like a monster, which comes around as goofy.

reply

The graveyard was very disappointing. I mean the movie version of course, not the book. The graveyard scene in the book-I loved that. It was so emotional and it made me see why people were afraid of Voldemort and his death eaters, but the graveyard scene in t he movie was so disappointing. For one, it was far too rushed, not to mention it seemed to have no real threat as it looked like Harry could easily slide out from that statue if he wanted to. I know the statue had a spell on it to hold him back, but that was only for a moment, if it was spelled to go on longer the least they could have done was have Dan struggle against the statue some more. He made no real effort to fight back, in the book he did, but he also couldn't struggle too much as he was tied to the stone from shoulders to ankles and couldn't move an inch. Also the death eaters should have had a bigger part and they should have include Harry fighting off the imperius curse and Voldemort taunting Harry. It was so much better in the book than in the movie. I wish they could have done that differently or made it longer or something.

They should have also had Rita's articles about him especially the one in the end that set Fudge to believe Harry was insane and shouldn't be believed.

They left so many important parts out of this and there's no excuse for it.

No, they weren't.

The beaubaxtons entrance

What's wrong with that? It was an institution for women. Surely you don't expet The beaubaxtons to demonstrate their battle fighting skills like the Durmstrang Institute did.

*Beaubaxtons could have been for both witches and wizards I'm not sure of that, but we did see a majority of witches.

reply

In the book, both Durmstrang and Beaubaxton were co-educational and the two groups of students sent to Hogwarts for the tournament included members of each sex.

reply

Thanks. I have yet to read Goblet of Fire. I've done reading Prisoners though.

reply

pete, I think this is an example of something the movie did well, in that it captured the essence of both foreign schools, and did so with brevity. Within a few effective sequences we are given the titular plot.

reply

so you tend to think of France as feminine and Northern or Eastern Europse as masculine?

reply

No, that contrast of character between the opposing schools was present in the books.

reply

"What's wrong with that? It was an institution for women. Surely you don't expet The beaubaxtons to demonstrate their battle fighting skills like the Durmstrang Institute did."

What? Women can't be good fighters, and men can't be elegant? Come on. And both schools were actually suppose to be co-ed.

reply

They can. Just so you know Durmstrang Institute taught Dark Arts to their students which was forbidden at Hogwarts...not sure if its the same with Beaubaxtons but no. They're no way benign if they learn Dark Arts (perhaps some of them are but not everyone)

I never meant that women can't be good fighters, its you who brought that up.  In fact most of them witches outsmart Wizards...say Bellatrix, Hermione and McGonagall
Fighters don't always have to be evil ya know. Anyone can fight, Durmstrang, BEaubaxtons and Hogwarts...but their approach isn't always the same.

reply

Completely agree with this. Also they should have had the other schools co-ed in the movie. I don't know why they made this unnecessary change.

Really quite amusing IMO. Loved the ageing potion routine.
The beaubaxtons entrance
Exremely cool! It looked great and contrasted well with that of the Durmstrang Institute.🐭

reply

Wrong on all counts.

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

I agree with the Harry and George comment - too much was done with them throughout the series to make them seem "cool"

I agree. Why is this rated higher than Order of the Phoenix with the unforgettable Imelda Staunton character?
