The book describes him as wise, stoic, and almost in a "zen" state at all times.
He was way too over the top in this movie. The actor did not understand the character compounded with very poor directing. The producers did NOT understand this book.
I like Michael Gambon but I think the original Dumbledore actor from the first two films was a closer Dumbledore to the books. I understand that he died and they had no choice but to recast him, but it would have been cool to see the original actor live through the rest of the movies
