Why does almost everybody hate Marina?

You can say all you want, but I think if she was around for more than one season she would have more followers.

She "lied" to Jenny and made her fall in love with her having Francesca in her life and knowing that Jenny had a boyfriend. She also played Tim (who was no saint and was aggressive towards her). It was bad, but Jenny was not forced into doing anything. There were characters that did worst things and almost everybody likes them. Bette cheated on Tina, Shane cheated on Carmen and left her on the day of their marriage, Dana left Alice for Lara (she went on a "date" with Lara when she was with Alice). I love them anyway.

Marina had things that made her a great character, and I was sad that she left the show. The accent was sexy, she was elegant, intellectual and very friendly. She was a predator, different than Shane, she brought another perspective to the show. She was dependent from others (Francesca, her husband),her life was a mess, and that could lead to an interesting storyline. I loved her conversations with Jenny. They were a good couple, that was separated too soon.

I think that if Marina stayed for more than one season, almost everybody would love her.

I like Marina. She was a very layered character. On the outside she was calm and sexy, seeming to have it all together. Then we learned she had people in her life she depended almost completely on, and we found out just how attached she was to Jenny when she attempted suicide after losing her. I think we all know someone a bit like Marina, someone who on the outside has it all together, but on the inside needs a friend more than anyone knows.

This is why I like Marina...and on a completely shallow note, she was painfully beautiful.

It's good to see someone on these boards that has the same impression I have about her.

I never realized so many people hated Marina...? Do they hate her because she supposedly seduced Jenny and ruined her relationship with Tim? C'mon, we all knew Jenny was half of that! She came to the Planet and sought Marina out! And yes, Marina acted inappropriately sometimes and hurt Tim, but it takes two to tango--so did Jenny. In the end, when we saw Marina again, it confirmed that I liked her. She was a bit vindictive, getting involved in the musical mock-up of Lez Girls and sleeping with Claude, but she was also clearly proud of Jenny's success and new life. And she'd also moved on herself.

She was a very interesting character and I also wish they would've let her stay longer. But they had to force Jenny to move on, so they booted Marina.

I think Karina Lombard (the actress who played Marina) was having problems with the rest of the cast. For that reason she left the show. She was supposed to continue on the show.
Jenny would've move on with or without Marina because Ilene Chaiken does whatever she wants with her characters, and she also ruined Jenny (I like her despite the fact she went downhill from season 1 on).

Yeah I didn't like her because she was manipulative of Jenny and others. It was morally wrong to end Jenny's relationship with Tim. I had someone destroy my friendship with a girl because the third party wanted to be with my friend, and I still feel bad about it, four years later.

Although that scene where Marina (I think it was her) is reaching up a bride's dress while sizing her was erotic. ;-)

I think you're referring to the scene with Marina's girlfriend fixing up a gown for an actress...?

Oh it was Marina's GF. Been a while lol, that scene was quite erotic wasn't it??? So intimate and invasive! :)

I really can't stand Marina, but I always thought Marina was a popular character.

However, you are definitely right that had she stuck around longer people would probably universally like her. I am rewatching season 1, and if this was all we got of Bette, I wouldn't like her at all either.

Personally I feel Marina is a manipulative predator and vindictive. It was one thing for her to interfere with Tim and Jenny (and I agree it does take 2 to tango; however, I still don't agree with the aggressive nature Marina went about pursuing Jenny). However, when she screws up Jenny's relationship and then doesn't tell Jenny she has a girlfriend?? She just expected Jenny to know this because it was common knowledge. Then when Jenny tries to move on and start dating others, Marina interferes again! This time she purposefully pursues Robin. That was just so screwed up to me.

However, I never cared much for Marina anyway, these actions just cause me to dislike her more. Even in the first couple episodes I don't care for Marina whereas a lot of other people do.

But let's be real. A lot of the characters on this show do some messed up things and we forgive them anyway and love them. Marina just wasn't around long enough to redeem herself for me.

Yeah I thought Marina was popular? I liked her in s1 and her and Jenny as a couple but when she effed Jenny I realised what a manipulative biatch she was. Also she was so arrogant and condescending to Tim.

reply

I liked Marina (and not just because she was gorgeous). She was interesting and intense. I wish she had stuck around. I liked the dynamic between her and Jenny.

I liked Marina also. No hate here. :)

I'm torn on her. I'm shallow though, so her accent and sexiness push her into the "like" category. The way she treated Tim was crap. I thought her defiance in the scene where Tim catches her and Jenny together was off-putting, especially after she'd pretended to be his friend. It's pretty shtty to participate in the destruction of a relationship when you yourself were not upfront about your attached status.

I hated Francesca more than any other character, which is saying a lot. I still don't understand why Marina didn't put her in her place?

Life's a bitch, but god forbid the bitch divorce me

I get what everybody is saying about Francesca (ie, it was sh!tty of Marina not to tell Jenny about her), but was I really the only person who got the feeling that Marina never expected to fall in love with Jenny? That Marina thought Jenny was attractive, interesting, and somebody who needed help coming out of her own closet, but she never realized she was going to fall so hard or miss her so much?

I didn't find her to be a very respectable character. Jenny wasn't perfect either, nor was Tim, but if she was going to seduce someone knowing it'd probably destroy their relationship, she could've had the decency to tell Jenny what her situation was with her open relationship and such. When she announced to Jenny that "Oh, by the way, my *real* girlfriend is coming back", it seemed like she really was using Jenny as a pawn in some sort of odd egotistical little game. Perhaps if she did come back in further seasons we could've seen her perspective more and things would be different, but she left on a pretty negative note.

Marina's seduction of Jenny in season 1 was the engine for the entire series to gain momentum. And it was very bonerific.
