Tony Scott's masterpiece

Far better that the first version directed by Elie Chouraqui, Man on Fire is a great accomplishment for Scott who wanted to make the movie since 1987. Washington is great as usual and is supported by a bunch of great actors like Mickey Rourke and Christopher Walken. Mexico city has never been shown like this. Probably Tony Scott's masterpiece.

Masterpice? This movie was absolutely terrible and pointless. The scenes with Mark Anthony's character's inconsistent behavior are the very difinition of forced. And the over-cut, prolonged kidnapping sequences lacked all tension because it didn't have any tempo. A hugely overrated film.

". . . lacked all tension?"

I felt tension, so. . . what's up with that? (And I'm very nearly jaded when it comes to seeing movies in general. Nothing but something well-done will grip me. Or so I presume.)

how the *beep* can you call that rabbish a MASTERPIECE.. guys like u on imdb proves that *beep* good rating doesn't mean good movie at all

True Romance is easily Tony Scott's masterpiece, followed closely by Top Gun. I don't consider Man on Fire to be a "good" movie but I have watched it many times because it is unique. Like another said, Mexico City has never been shown on film like that, at least to U.S. audiences. Also a really good cast.

*Cinema's masterpiece.

The only Tony Scott film worthy of applause is The Last Boy Scout, which at the time was the funniest buddy-mismatch movie since 48 Hours (which is superior).

Just my opinion. Not terrible, but far far away from a masterpiece. Good first hour. His guilt, their building relationship, nice atmosphere, then disintegration the rest of the way. Some minor interest in mindless violence and vigilantism, but overall, 5.5 out of 10

I've just rewatched it for the billionth time, and it hit all the right moments for me emotionally as it has before. I have absolutely no disagreements with this thread. It is Tony's masterpiece, just like it was Creasy's masterpiece.

Its no masterpiece but a different take on the way he bought the visuals for Mexico.

Its that man again!!

I agree, it's easily his best and his masterpiece. One of the best films of the decade.
I kept waiting if he would follow it up with another great epic, but now the wait is unfortunately over. Rest in peace, Tony.
