Surprisingly good

I wasn't sure about this at first - I had checked the bargain bin again, and the other movies were seriously miserable crap. To mention one, 'Love Guru' - geez. A Mike Myers COMEDY and 0 laughs. Zero.

This movie had me laughing THREE times before 30 minutes was up! I didn't expect that.

Chris Rock has a lot of charisma and charm, although he's best when he's ranting on the mic.

Compared to the garbage I watched before it, this movie is actually a great breath of fresh air. I especially liked the comeuppance of the crazy ex-girlfriend, the golddigger that can sneak herself into any situation.

The weird vibrato-scream the woman does (even the other woman!) every time Chris's char says "security" was so absurd and surreal, it had me laughing every time. FINALLY a movie that dares punch and treat women like other movies punch and treat men.

Can you imagine another movie that dares put a woman to a hospital simply for being a golddigger? (Or even daring to show woman as being a golddigger..)

The story was predictable (and the cover spoiled the ending, what the heck), but the ride was fun and funny. The performances were nice, there was lots of eye candy and silly situations, and despite the theme, the movie never got too political. There were some entertaining and energetic songs with interesting synth instruments, and there's really nothing bad to say about this movie.

Maybe it didn't 'dare' too much, but other than that, it's a good, rather brainless, predictable entertainment.

In a world, where almost every movie is either a romance or some gloomy, nightmarish horror crap, or really bad comedy that just ends up being a corny romance anyway (not that this movie wasn't also a 'romance movie', but at least it was handled tastefully and playfully, and the characters were very appealing and nice to watch), it's refreshing to see something like this.

I recommend this movie for easy watching when you don't want to bother with something depressing or heavy. It's so much better than many comedies, like 'Love Guru' or 'Rat Race', for two examples from the bottom of the barrel.

It's rare to find a movie where I can't find many nitpicks or much anything bad to say about, this movie simply didn't trigger anything in me, it was just an enjoyable ride that I will probably watch again in the near future.

Now, Chris Rock has so much comedic talent, that it was a little bit wasted, it felt like he wasn't able to be fully himself and rant properly, like he does in his sets, but he was good in the role and managed to make me laugh many timers anyway, so .. well done.
