Any recommendations for similar movie would be welcome.

Dear Sirs and Ladies.
Do any of you know of movies that have a similar feel to suspect zero (other then that creepy feeling that this movie is the answer to the question 'how bad can a Ben Kingsly + Carrie Anne Moss movie get?').
Silence of the lambs, dark side of humanity, what we wretched humans are really capable of, evil goverment plots to develop special talents, anything along those lines?
My kind thanks for you finite time.

I am a big horror movie fan; I have to agree with many listed and would recommend a few more:

Copycat (my personal fav in this category; follows behavioral patterns of the killers)
American Psycho (amazing performance by Christian Bale, great ending)
Identity (think 10 little Indians in a deserted hotel)
Murder By Numbers (Ryan Gosling is so good and really hot!)
Kiss the Girls (that guy is creepy!)
Helter Skelter (crazy Manson)
Audition (very raw and disturbing, beware, Japanese horror is of a different breed)
The Last House on the Left (Craven's first, extremely gruesome)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the classic that was loosely based on John Gacy)
From Hell (one point of view on Jack the Ripper)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the classic that was loosely based on John Gacy)

Actually that classic was loosely based on Ed Gein, not John Gacy.

reply

You could probably make a case that Ed Gein "inspired" the entire genre of slasher films, as well as rural mayhem movies and characters like Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs.

IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOU THINK...

sorry but gacy didnt even kill anyone before texas chainsaw massacre was made u buffoon.its based on ed gein which psycho was also based on .how can people get the facts wrong on a site that is a movie data base lol

reply

Texas Chainsaw Massacre WASN'T based on Gacy.

It's based on Ed Gein.

So is...
(Buffalo Bill) in Silence of the lambs,
Psycho,
Leatherface,
Deranged, & on & on & on

If you don't mind documentaries, here's two very informative ones.

H.H. Holmes: America's First Serial Killer (2003)

Albert Fish (2007)

Both are on Netflix

>>Oh, well that's different. Nevermind!<<

''I saw the devil''...korean movie...try it!

reply

Not sure if it was mentioned in the responses above, but the series DEXTER is quite similar to this movie. I know it's not a film, but I couldn't help thinking about it while I was watch this film.

reply

I saw the devil was quite the entertaining film...
as was Citizen X

this was good..
but a little scattered.
I thought for sure Eckhart would turn in the crazed serial hunter...
and from reading about the script changes.. that was the original intent.

still I give this a 6.

"the flock" starring richard gere as an obsessed public safety agent about to retire with claire danes as his replacement. also filmed in new mexico so some of the same feel/atmosphere of the stark desert and dark lives. i like both quite a bit as i am not a fan of rom-coms!

reply

well there's this little great film directed by sean penn, called the pledge...

I know this thread is old - but it has occasional posts from people looking for more serial-killer movies.

The Kevin Costner movie "Mr Brooks" might be worth considering.
I saw it recently and was pleasantly surprised. It's not the best serial killer movie, but it is worth watching.

reply

Agree with Citizen X for a serial killer movie.
Not familiar with the Holmes documentary, but there is a great book that gives amazing information about the 1893 Chicago World's Fair along with covering Holmes: The Devil in the White City.
The Reckoning, which is new.
The Calling, with Susan Sarandon, also new.

They are re-making Citizen X with Gary Oldman. I think it's called Child 44.

Also, the TV series Hannibal has plenty of very artsy killing and psychology stuff. It's not been renewed, but there are a few episodes not yet aired that will be on Saturdays at 10pm on channel 24.
