Question about love scene

I do not understand what they are doing, when they first hook up. He is laying beside her, and she is moaning, so how could they be having sex?

Having just seen this today I would have to say I agree that he is laying next to her possibly fingering her, or playing with her in some way, that caused her great arousal. I know I have been in that exact position doing that exact thing before, it can be such a small thing to do, with such a great effect. I commented to my girlfriend that he almost looked bored, not sure if that was intentional to mean he was more or less doing her a favor, or just how the scene came across to me, but unless we read the script or speak to the writer/director I don't think we will have a definitve answer.

I think the sex scenes were really important in understanding Darren's character. He was clearly pleasuring May for her own satisfaction and not his own. What everything implied to me, was Darren was a man who had a very removed attitude to sexual acts. For him, sex and sexual acts were something he could simply perform without emotional or even physical connection. This ultimately leads to the car crash of emotions May and her daughter then begin to suffer due to their interactions with Darren. It also reinforces my belief some kind of similar acts were occurring between Darren and the son/friend. I never felt at any point Darren wasn't a man who would carry out a sexual act on anyone (male or female) for his own reasons. There are many men like this out there, it doesn't even transcend sexuality - it's merely an ability they have to conduct sexual acts as a 'matter of fact' function as opposed to a mental motivation.
