Randomly finding the ironclad CSS Texas?

So the ironclad CSS Texas is the thing that they were searching for throughout the movie. And they had just a vague kindof idea of where it might be located. And they just randomly accidently found it, while throwing explosives at a helicopter? Really? Most convenient resolution to a macguffin I have ever seen.

I'd argee that it was a very fortunate find, but hardly the worst in cinema history.

1 - they were already 'in the area' it's not like they just happened across it even tho they weren't looking;
2- they weren't throwing the explosives AT the helicopter, they were throwing the explosives at the wall of sand to create a smoke screen.

Sure, it's a fairly big 'wow, that was fortunate' but it happens ALL the time in movies.

I just watched the movie again, after reading 5 Pitt novels, and I don't think it was for one moment random. Dirk is endlessly written as having a sense of things. He's like Spider-Man. They knew it was somewhere near the fortress. They knew it was buried along the dry river bed. Dirk had already put together where he was sure the boat was buried. When he drove to and directed the placement of the charges, it was no mere chance. He was playing out one of his famous hunches. That didn't show in the film! You have to read the books to get that. Does that make for a shitty movie? Maybe.
