Question about Ending

In the final scene the couple drives by a sign advertising the casino they worked at. Does this mean they are returning to Vegas? Clearly, they've been driving for hours and possibly days, as there has been time for a new casino manager to take over for Shelley, and nighttime has turned to day. Did anyone catch something I missed?

reply

I am pretty sure that they were driving out of Vegas and leaving the sign behind, not driving back in there.

reply

I thought that they were too, but then the sign facing them as they are leaving seemed like a rookie director mistake.

Keep fücking that chicken.

Nah, it's just a way for the director to tell us they're leaving all that behind. It is facing the wrong way, but hey! How ya gonna show it when it's facing the right way?

Well, he could have done one shot of them driving toward the camera, and passing the sign, which would have an ad for the casino. We'd see the ad, but they wouldn't, because they'd pass it and have their backs to it. Then he could have done the long shot of them driving into the distance, with the reverse of the sign visible, saying something like "Thanks for visiting Las Vegas - Come Back Soon!" or whatever a typical sign would say when you're leaving a place. But that's kind of fussy, and I think the way he did it was better. I knew they were leaving, probably never to return. And you can see the big country stretching away ahead of them, so you know that they're starting a new life and leaving the casino behind.

Flat, drab passion meanders across the screen!

Hopefully Macy pulled off the road and did her again!

I wondered about that too, except there was no reason for them to return to Vegas.
