Did the PM care much about his sister?

So one thing that didn't sit right with me in this film is near the end where everyone is going to the school to watch the play and Karen runs into her brother, who it appears she doesn't get to speak to as much as indicated by the scene where she called him after he stood up the President and he said he'd call her back and she said "no you won't!".

Karen seemed to be distraught after discovering the gold necklace and putting two and two together about her husband's indiscretions and it also appeared that Karen was relieved in a way to see her big brother because she was going through a tough time and needed her family. Karen even says something along lines of "i've never been gladder to see my stupid big brother", which, along with her tone, hints at the idea that she was hurting in some way and seeing her brother provided some comfort.

I totally expected Hugh/the PM to ask her if anything was wrong or if she was alright, but we didn't get anything like that from him and that just seemed weird to me.

Anyone else notice this?

he did appear concerned, but she went off to take her seat in the audience, and just as the show was about to start probably wasn't the best time to have a discussion about it. perhaps she talked to him about it later. in real life, she's actually seventeen months older than hugh Grant, so strictly speaking he should be her little brother.

Hmm it's possible he spoke to her after and we just didn't see it
Yeah, she did end the conversation pretty quick, but I guess she felt uncomfortable seeing as how there were new faces around them and she probably felt like it wasn't the right time to discuss it.

Cool, I didn't know that about them in real life but in this movie Hugh Grant's character is supposed to be the older brother, otherwise I don't know why she would call him that.

Just re-watched the scene. David DOES ask her if she's alright after she hugs him him for a longer period of time but this is before she emotionally says she's never been so happy to see her brother.

Yes he does give a toss!

It's a really good scene between what I thought was actually a brother and sister... I have sisters... all older than me, so it was very familiar.

I noticed that and what even surprised me more is that the prime minister didn't seem to know where his sister's kid study (or didn't notice that he was at their school?). But maybe that's the way that family was brought up as Karen didn't show much attention when her friend Daniel who had just lost his wife called and she was "too busy" to talk to him... I thought that was very insensitive no matter how busy she was. But still, I love this movie!

*Spoilers*

Yeah, he cared, because when she hugs him, he says, "Hey, are you alright?" and even looks concerned about her after she thanks him for coming.
