1. Why did the girlfriend change the benificary when she was planning to fake her death to collect the insurance.

- She wasn't collecting the insurance. That was set up to make Whitlock look even more like the killer. He's going through a divorce, he needs money because of it, so it makes him look even more suspicious.

2. Why did that Paul guy end up with the suitcase of money.

- It wasn't so much he ended up with it, he just had it when Whitlock showed up. Chris was out getting ID's made, Ann was elsewhere, so Paul had the money with him at the hotel. Chances are they were all staying there, the room had two beds if I remember correctly.

3. Why didnt the girlfriend just leave with the money instead of setting up an elobrate scheme.

- When you're up against the Chief of police, who's very intelligent (and she would know this), you need all the help you can get. Stealing some cash and running would have got her about a day or so before she was caught.

4. Was there any reason to frame Denzel for the murder.

- Yes, to have someone take the fall and draw attention away from the real killers. Did you even watch the movie?

5. Why did the girlfriend beat herself up.

- To push Matt into helping her at the end. He shows up, sees her beaten, and buys her story that Chris made her do it.

6. Why did she shoot her husband.

- One less person to worry about when it comes to running. She shoots Chris, kills Whitlock and it looks like an affair gone wrong.

7. Why did a film with a good performance from denzel washington, suck so much?

- After reading your questions, it seems to me you either didn't pay attention or saw the last half of the film. Go back and watch it, pay attention this time. You'll find a tightly bound, smartly written thriller.

Here's another one:

In Cabot's hotel room, Denzel checks the closet and the bathroom, the only two places Cabot could have hid. Yet, Cabot comes and hits him from behind. Where the hell did he come from?

Just watched some of the movie. The premise keeps the Chief from being totally corrupt. He stole the money. But when they added the fire, he was no longer the lead bad guy. The story became murder/insurance plot for the cops and finding the drug money for the Chief. Some have said that the fire would throw the Chief off her trail. It was fraud from the beginning. She wasn't sick, didn't love her husband or him, knew about the drug bust/money, and used his feelings about her to get the money. It's a good story, she used the relationship to set him up. The phone records and affair would come out making the chief look guilty, done. Kill the husband, don't share the money, done. She would kill Cabot too, another loose end wrapped up.

Where it falls apart for me is what is he going to do when he will need to give the money back. Was she going to die in a timely manner. So they add the second act. The chase that followed, him and the cops looking for the same guy but for different reasons was good. When he had the money back, he was golden (so to speak). He could turn the money over. Then she lured him back to help her get away from her husband. When she really wanted the money. What made her think he would bring the money back? That's what was unexpected. But at least this time he had his cop hat on. The rest only worked because his wife loved him.

Where it falls apart for me is what is he going to do when he will need to give the money back.

If we consider the fact that he was planning on going to Europe and/or Africa with said stolen money, the odds that he would be returning would be pretty low, leave alone returning the money.
