Why Monk does not carry a cell?

He has no problems using cell, he uses other's cells all the time.
So why not carry a own?
Is it explained in the show?

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.

reply

You mean filthy germ riddled phones?

reply

That's weak.
Monk have no problems touching his own stuff, like show laces and jacket.
If he keeps the cell to himself and keep it clean, I guess he has no problems with it.
Unlike landline phones which can be used by guests, he can keep the cell whole by himself.

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.

reply

But he also likes having other people do thing for him. Like answering phones, or else he wouldn't have his assistants answering his phone all the time.

reply

That's true.
I guess it's just a perk.

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.

reply

Plus, he's extremely cheap. Why pay for cell phone minutes (and during this time, I believe most cell phone companies charged for calls by the minute, when your underpaid assistant could foot that bill.

reply

Actually, he was mostly cheap with assistants.
He spends like 10 times normal people on stupid lamps and cleaning supplies.
I don't think we are going anywhere.

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.

reply

That's true. How many cases of water did he buy after Mexico?

reply

Yeah, good example!
That kind of stuff.
I actually think he overspend, with a full time PERSONAL assistant and all.
I remember Nat's paycheck was like a grand for a week, without overtime of course.
Nat's pay must like 5-6 grand a month!

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.

reply

But we're also talking about San Francisco, where the cost of living is really high.

reply

This is something that occured to me when I was on another board.

Ambrose trying to contact Monk.

In Mr. Monk and the Three Pies, Ambrose dialed a number hoping to contact Adrian, but the phone was answered by Sharona. In Mr. Monk Goes Home Again, Ambrose tried to contact Adrian, presumably expecting to talk to Sharona, but reached Natalie instead.

Three Pies: First Contact:
Sharona: Hello. Uh, no, I'm Sharona, his assistant. Who is this? Oh, uh, hold on.
Adrian. Adrian, you have a brother?
Adrian: No.
Sharona:I'm sorry. You must have the wrong Adrian Monk.

Goes Home Again: Second Contact
Hello. No, Sharona's not here anymore. Uh, about a year ago. Well, I don't know what happened. She moved to New Jersey. Sir, I don't know what happened. You'd have to ask her. Who is this?

So, my "theory" is that in both cases, Ambrose Monk was trying to reach a number under the name of Adrian Monk, and his assistant answered, so I think that Monk's assistant carries a cellphone that is registered to Monk, and maybe also carries their own separate private use phones.

reply

I think part of the humour of Monk is that he's not the most technically competent person. Remember when he was first shown how to use a computer?

It does feel kind of in character that he wouldn't own a cellphone.
