What's your League for the 2000's?

Rules:

- All the members have to be British, Scottish, or member of any UK colony such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, Nigeria, etc.

- They have to have adventures that are being written right now, i.e., they have to be cotemporary characters.

- They can be from any form of fiction: books, movies, comic books, tv, games etc.

- There's no need to worry about copyright stuff.

---------------------------

I'm not a fan of Harry Potter books, so I don't know all the characters, but I think at least one member should have to be from this franchise. I would choose Sirius Black, but he died in the last movie I've saw (I don't know if he is ressurected in any subsequent book).

So what is your ideas?

I think two good characters could be:

- Alfred Pennyworth (as leader)
- Elizabeth Braddock, sister of the Captain Britain, AKA Psylocke.

any UK colony such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, Nigeria, etc.

A colony? In this times they aint colonis but independant countries!!! Why did you keep the states out of the list if you were based in past history? I will limti myself to the brittish isles...

Well anyway... here;

1.Dr. Who
2.Count Duckula's Nanny (Secondary appearances of Count Duckula and Igor)
3.Danger Mouse
4.Willy Wonka
5.Andrew Pipkin (His bad comedy is so awful it is lethal)

reply

I'm sorry if my "colony" word was misinterpreted. I know all those countries are independent now. But they are closely related to UK still today through Commonwealth. Their Head of State sometimes are still Queen Elizabeth. It's a figurative head of state but still...

I saw that too and i laughed cause it got ignored after the first few posts. I didnt read all of them. I only hope people FINALLY left Neo (the martix) out. I enjoyed doing these but than post after post after post someone would always use someone from The Martix.

Sadly, most of my league would be American (cause thats what I am) but I doubt anyone would have any idea who they were.

The minute God crapped out the third caveman, a conspiracy was hatched against one of them!

1.Harry Potter

Excuses are like @ssholes, everybody has one and they all stink

reply

I'm American (not from the us 'though) and I didn't had a hard time listing English characters...

reply

The League for the Modern Era would have to be an international entity. That's the only way it would make sense, baring that in mind here is my League...

Capt. Jack Harkness (from Torchwood)
Arsene Lupin III
Dexter Morgan
Robin Sena (Witch Hunter Robin)
Solid Snake

reply

My vote goes to Commander Adam Dalgliesh, from PD James' mystery books. I absolutely adore him...and every good superhero group needs a friend in the police department, right? : ]

reply

UK and colonies like India and Canada? No colonies anymore mate.

So I'm ignoring that

Also I'm sticking to the books versions and not the terrible movie.

Also for those suggesting James Bond...Alan Moore(who created the League) used him as a character and he was not a good guy. In case anyone was interested in that nugget.

I liked some suggestions here... The characters I'll use are known but extremely famous.

Clarice Starling works very well as the Mina character who is the leader.

Ash as the comic relief works well.

Marv from Sin City

A grown up Encyclopedia Brown as a Sherlock Homes type character.

A rebuilt T-800 to be an infiltrator like the Invisible Man was and to provide muscle.

Michael Knight and his car Kitt(original not new version)

*beep* the Brit rule.

1. James Bond - James Bond (a neccessity)
2. Anakin Skywalker - Star Wars trilogy (whiny bitch!)
3. Viktor - Underworld (lying rat/coward, but badass anyway)
4. The Terminator (T800) - The Terminator trilogy (he's a beast)
5. Lara Croft - Tomb Raider (sex appeal)
6. Rorschach (80's I know.) - Watchmen (he was too good to pass up)

Honorable mentions:

Solid Snake
Morpheus
V
Selene

And pretty much everyone else mentioned previously.

reply

2)LaraCroft(Tomb Raider)

3)Ducan Mcload (The Inmortal)

reply

2)Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
3)Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)
4)James Bond (Um...James Bond)
5)Duncan McLeod (Highlander)
6)Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
7)Mohinder Suresh (Heroes)

reply

I'm glad Bruce and Peowolf mentioned Buffy and Spike. (I thought I was the only Joss Whedon fan!)

How about adding Dark Willow, Angel, Connor, Faith, and Wesley Wyndam-Pryce (but the Wesley from Angel: not Buffy)?

We could always add Tom Cruise to bore them to death about Scientology and Mel Gibson to threaten to bury them in a rose garden.

reply

James Bond (Sean Connery)

Lara Croft

V from V for Vendetta

Bear Grylls

Alfie (Jude Law)

Austin Powers

Sir Leigh Teabing (The Da Vinci Code)

Jonathan and Evelyn (The Mummy)

Mickey (Snatch)

reply

James Bond (obviously)

Lara Croft (another obvious givin)

Tarzan of Greystoke (a total badarse)

Mary Poppins (what!?!, she's a bada$$ watch the movie!)

The Elephant Man (the odd lovable brute)

Herbie from the Love Bug (for The Elephant Man's Transportation)

Extrodinary indeed!

While i mean no disrespect to Mr. Merrick, as there is a fictional him from both a play and a film, but given the original book about him had so many inconsistencies....should we just up and use that as our first example of fictional him in a League world?

Add John Constantine to your list. Id say that's a good league.

A young league, all from books.

The Spy - James Adams, CHERUB series by Robert Muchamore
The Mastermind* - Artemis Fowl, AF series by Eoin Colfer*
The Genius - Cadel Piggott, Genius series by Catherine Jinks
The Wizard - Harry Potter, HP series by J.K. Rowling
The Secret Agent - Alex Rider, AR series by Anthony Horowitz
The Fighter - Freedom Smith, FS series by Kate Wild
The Commando - Danny Watts, Boy Soldier series by Andy McNab and Robert Rigby
The Thief - Jonah Wish, JW series by Stephen Cole

*He's Irish, yeah, I know, but close enough right? Ireland used to be under British control, and the northern bit of it is still part of the UK. The rest are all British, except for Cadel, who's Australian, sort of. If you've read the series you'll know what I mean.

I know this doesn't fit the guidelines, but I think it's a pretty solid League.

Connor Fitzgerald - The Eleventh Commandment, by Jeffrey Archer
John Patrick Mason - Sean Connery, The Rock
Jason Bourne - Matt Damon, the Bourne trilogy
James Bond - Daniel Craig, Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace
Frank Martin - Jason Statham, The Transporter
The Driver - Clive Owen, BMW Films
Simon Templar - Val Kilmer, The Saint

Jack Bauer - Kiefer Sutherland, 24
Sydney Bristow - Jennifer Garner, Alias

Well hell then, I guess I need my pants.

Excellent list! I had been wondering why no one had mentioned Alex Rider, Artemis Fowl or anyone from CHERUB yet, and here you've listed them all and then some! =D

A young league would be excellent, I think.

But I'd leave Harry Potter out of it, for a reason mentioned earlier in the thread: he would upstage all of the other characters without even trying. I'd put Hermione Granger in there, instead.

reply

One of them has to be Niko Bellic :)

reply

This one by Painter is funny; "The Elephant Man (the odd lovable brute)"... So now a person afflicted with a skin disorder is a brute that everyone can love (dispite having a disorder that generates eyesores) and... What? Has extra strength from all the lumps of flesh? Yeah right!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's my litarary version from YA books. My characters can be of any nationality, but they do all have to be from "our world", and relatively current, or be able to live until the present day. For the purposes of their further adventures, assume that they have all moved past their childhood problems and have developed their powers/skills for more practical uses.

Matilda Honey, from Matilda by Roald Dahl
Will Stanton from the Dark is Rising series
Harry Potter, obviously
Meggie Folchart from Inkheart
Charles Wallace from A Wrinkle in Time
Jesse Tuck from Tuck Everlasting
Flat Stanley!

There are others I could add, but didn't either because either the character or the world he/she lives in doesn't quite fit with the others.

I'm sorry, I'm not even gonna give a bs excuse like "it'd be an international organization", I can't do just british characters. That said, here's my list:

*Warning, lots of spoilers for the characters' respective stories*

Jules (Pulp Fiction)-Ex-criminal who now walks the earth looking to set the world "in balance" after he was saved by divine intervention. Sort of a hunter type like Quatermain.

Hob Gadling(SP?) (Neil Gaiman's Sandman series)-Immortal because he simply "refuses to die". Has lived for centures and can be the sort of the damage tank like Dorion.

Brock Samson (The Venture Bros.)- Ex-Secret Agent. Super badass with almost superhuman skills in unarmed combat and solid skills all around (doesn't use firearms!). Sort of like the Hyde of the group because of his brute strength.

Amy Earhart (Fluke)- Daughter of Amelia Earhart and the sea g-d, Token girl of the group, could act as the Nemo of the group with control over sea creatures and such.

Walter and Peter Bishop (Fringe)- Mad scientist father and streetwise son. They could act as the scientific and theifish portions of the group respectively.

That was harder than I thought. If any of these characters was the leader then I would think it would be Walter Bishop. He's crazy as balls, but he'd get things done.

reply

B.B. Kiddo (Kill Bill) - Now in her mid-20s, the daughter of Beatrix Kiddo and Bill the Snake Charmer is arguably an even more deadly assasin than both of her parents combined. She would act as the de facto leader of the group.

Dr. Holden Caulfield (The Catcher in the Rye) - This formerly misanthropic anthropologist acts as the modern league's crotchety old man ala Quatermain. He would also have a slightly creepy relationship with B.B.

Wesley Gibson (Wanted) - The most skilled murderer on the planet, Wesley serves as the league's most deadly member.

Anthony Soprano, Jr. (The Sopranos) - A.J. is a weathy cappo from New Jersey. He funds most of the league's excersions

Patrick Jane (The Mentalist) - Patrick Jane was formerly a sideshow psychic, but now works for the league as a detective.

Kermit (The works of Jim Henson) - The last surviving of Dr. Moreau's creations, Kermit was once a mild mannered banjo player from Mississippi, but all that changed when his DNA was mixed with that of a frog. Now he posseses all the abilities of a frog and a Human.

Harry Dresden (The Dresden Files) Badass wizard who's fairly handy in a firefight or fist fight as well. Has lots of supernatural connections - some rather shady - and a good working knowledge of all things magical. His familiar Bob the Skull would essentially be the group's database. He'd be the overall leader of the team, but he wouldn't be entirely trusted by them.

John Winchester (Supernatural) Monster/demon hunter extraordinaire, but most emphatically does not play well with others. Knows almost as much about bumps in the night as Harry Dresden does, but his knowledge is decidedly more focused - while Dresden knows all about supernatural creatures, John only knows (and cares) how to kill them. He'd only join the League in hopes of finding information about the demon who killed his wife, and he'd be in conflict with Dresden from the word go.

Gregory House (House) League's medic.

Jayne Cobb (Firefly) Mercenary soldier who works for whoever pays the most at any given time. Great with guns, even better with grenades, but not necessarily the kind of guy you want to turn your back on for too long.

Reed Richards (Marvel Comics) Mr. Fantastic himself, in addition to his elasticity powers making him a formidable fighter, he's one of the most brilliant scientists in the Marvel Universe.

Felicia Hardy (Marvel Comics) The Black Cat is an expert spy and burglar, plus she's independently wealthy so she'd probably finance the League.

(Nick Fury (Marvel Comics) The League's handler is always a pragmatist and not above playing things a bit shady, so they'd have to be wary of him.
