What's your League for the 2000's?

Rules:

- All the members have to be British, Scottish, or member of any UK colony such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, Nigeria, etc.

- They have to have adventures that are being written right now, i.e., they have to be cotemporary characters.

- They can be from any form of fiction: books, movies, comic books, tv, games etc.

- There's no need to worry about copyright stuff.

---------------------------

I'm not a fan of Harry Potter books, so I don't know all the characters, but I think at least one member should have to be from this franchise. I would choose Sirius Black, but he died in the last movie I've saw (I don't know if he is ressurected in any subsequent book).

So what is your ideas?

I think two good characters could be:

- Alfred Pennyworth (as leader)
- Elizabeth Braddock, sister of the Captain Britain, AKA Psylocke.

reply

Hmm... let's see.

James Bond...definitely.

Laura Croft

Dexter Morgan (don't know why, I just want to see him in there).

Jason Bourne

Lestat de Lioncourt (even if he is a rather bad guy...so was Dorian, so there you have it).

Jack Sparrow

Harry Potter

Last two are toss ups. I just think it fits being that a few don't have some kind of power.
Don't know why. But those come to mind right now.
Odd mix. I think this would be more of an action/comedy.

But wouldn't Bond and Croft make a hot hook up?? *snickers*

reply

Indiana Jones as the wise and seasoned overseer of the group

Dirk Pitt as the charismatic leader

Artemis Fowl as the brains and cunning

Selene the Vampire as the fem fatale

Ash Williams as the comical bad@$$

and I guess since one would have to be from the Harry Potter franchise...

Mad Eye Moody as the gruff old guy who can deal out the pain

That's my League!!

reply

Ah! Dirk Pitt would be awesome! I didn't even think of that!

reply

Weren't the only rules for this that they had to be contemporary characters from the UK? Because Ash, Dexter, Dirk, Bourne, and Indiana Jones aren't from the UK...and Jack Sparrow isn't a contemporary character.

reply

I agree about Jack Sparrow, but if you can come with an awesome modern league soley from the UK, lets hear it.

reply

James Bolivar diGriz: Thief and con man from The Stainless Steel Rat. 3. Lara Croft: Adventurer and archaeologist. 4. Dr Tom Jackman/ Mr. Hyde: Descendant of Dr. Jekyll from the TV show Jekyll 5. Harry D'Amour: A private investigator who deals with the occult 6. Cameron Vale: Psychic from the movie Scanners, now in the body of Darryl Revok 7. Max Renn: Protagonist of Videodrone.

reply

reply

Alex from a Clockwork Orange
Sweeney Todd
The Wicked Witch of the West/Elphaba
Dustfinger from Inkheart
Alice from Alice in Wonderland

And I know they are not from the UK but too bad!

reply

Neither did I. Dirk Pitt would kick!

reply

BLADE: half human, half vampire with strength, speed, skill, and allegiance to mankind.

JAMES BOND: Intelligent and powerful spy as the debonair/deadly member

AEON FLUX: The femme fatale hotty of the group

INDIANA JONES(young): The adventurous hero who never gives up

RA'S AL GHUL: The immortal of the group

SHERLOCK HOLMES: The brilliant detective mind

BILLY the KID: The talented, loose-cannon gunslinger.

I think if the League were done in modern times, it would most definitely be an international organization, so I would drop the UK stipulations...but here's mine:

1. Dr. Who
2. Lara Croft
3. Jason Bourne
4. Beatrix Kiddo
5. Bruce Banner
6. Harry Callahan

For a proper nemesis, I'd do like the movie did and keep his identity a secret for most of the story, but here's some good candidates:

1. Hannibal Lecter
2. Hans Gruber
3. Scorpio (maybe not the main baddie, but a main henchman)
4. The Daleks

reply

These may not be so efficient but certainly quite entertaining.
1. Gareth Keenan from "The Office UK"
2 and 3. Lou and Andy from "Little Britain"
4. Ali G
5. Charlie Chaplins Tramp
Peace, Love and Mark Wahlberg

reply

Oh, Dr. Who! He'd be awesome

reply

Well, I thought about mine and I would have:

1. Hunter-Gabriel Van Helsing (From the film)

2. Scientist-Jacob Hood (From Eleventh Hour)

3. Thief-Nathan Ford (From Leverage)

4. Beast-Hellboy

5. Spy-Jason Bourne (From the Bourne series)

6. Immortal- John Amsterdam (From New Amsterdam)

7. Vampire- Mick St. John (From Moonlight)

The Reason for Van Helsing because he mirrors Quatermain someone with plenty of experiences and is not allowed to die. For Jacob Hood who is from the tv show the 11th Hour because from the series he is very intelligent scientist who helps out with the crimes. Nathan Ford who's the leader in Leverage (a television series), he leds a team of experienced thieves and they get the job done when it comes to stealing things. For Hellboy obviously he's badass in my opinion and good when comes to smashing things. For Bourne I couldn't think of anyone more modern who be the spy and of course he's very good. Most of you probably won't remember New Amsterdam (because it got cancelled after 8 episodes), it was a tv show last year about a man from 1600s who was granted immortailty until he finds his soulmate, I thought John Amsterdam be great for this because he's not been overused like Highlander, Dorian Gray, Orlando and he's a genuine character and he can't die and has great experiences over the centuries he went through. My choice for Mick St. John for vampire, well he's a vampire from a tv show called Moonlight which is very good and unfortunately got cancelled, he's a private investigator and helps people and get's all scary and badass when he's vamped out, so he would be great for this gig.

I know a got a lot of characters from tv shows, but I thought they were great in them and hasn't been overused.

reply

admirable, but the doctor is a league all by himself

reply

Of course, you are correct about the Doctor, but...

Professor X was born in New York City (though clearly not Patrick Stewart...but I assume you want the character, not the actor).

Hermoine for eye candy? Have you not been paying attention to the books/movies? She would actually be your "big gun"...the most powerful member of the group. The fact that she's attractive wouldn't hurt, mind you.

Also, Arnold was born in Thal, Austria...not that it matters, as we're talking about characters, not actors. Thought the idea of John Matrix (Commando) and Alan "Dutch" Schaefer (Predator) being on the same team (and always being confused for the other) is kind of fun.

Don't know about a full list, but some to remember:

Eddie Yang (from the movie "The Medallion", as portrayed by Jackie Chan): A Hong Kong (former British territory) police officer granted immortality and all sorts of powers from a mystical medallion.

Krrish (from the movie "Krrish", as portrayed by Hrithik Roshan): An Indian (former British territory) super-hero who inherited his powers from his father (who gained them from aliens).

Cammy (from the "Street Fighter" game): Not sure if she's British, Australian, or what...but she works for MI6...and can kick ass.

reply

Chuck Norris.

reply

This could make for an interesting yet effective league...lol

Dumbledore (magic, and leadership)
James Bond (training in espionage, combat, etc)
Austin Powers (I'm sorry but I think Bond getting pissed at Powers making agents look stupid would be good humor, along with a love triangle with my 3rd pick...)
Lara Croft (sex appeal, good in a fight, all that stuff)
Robert Langdon (the brain of the group)
Bruce Wayne (provides the scientific stuff, combat and detective skills)

reply

James Bond
Hellboy
Dirk Pitt
Rorschach(from Watchmen)
Lara Croft
Indianna Jones(Time Period Off???)
Or just use Chuck Norris instead of all these guys.

Henry Fitzroy (the vampire from the Tanya Huff Blood Ties series)
Laura Croft
Wolverine
Chun-Li
Ron Weasley from HP as the comic relief...

reply

I like

Indiana Jones
Lara Croft
Blade
Edward Cullen
Hermione Granger
Tyler Durden

reply

My own modern league:

Modesty Blaise: Female secret agent, from novels by Peter O'Donnell
Willie Garvin: Modesty's partner, from the same books
Harry Dresden: Occult detective, from novels by Jim Butcher
Repairman Jack: Adventurer/detective from novels by F. Paul Wilson
Elena Michaels: Female werewolf, from novels by Kelley Armstrong
John Melmoth: Immortal wanderer, from the novel by Charles Maturin
Charlie Parker: Tough detective/fallen angel(?), from novels by John Connolly

It's tempting to add James Bond or Harry Potter, but they're such enormously popular characters that they would overshadow the others (the same reason Alan Moore didn't include Sherlock Holmes or Dracula in his original League). Jack Ryan is a possibility but Tom Clancy's novels bore me and the movies aren't much better. I left out superheroes because there's already a million other superhero teams in real comics. I toyed with the idea of adding one of Anne Rice's vampires but decided against it. I also tried to limit myself to people from the same time period, or (in the case of Melmoth), people who would be alive in that time period.

reply

I'm not sticking to British characters (its the 2000s, my league would be based out of the UN and not one country specifically) and I am staying away from Superhero characters

My League:

Indiana Jones - Raiders, ect.(he might be too popular but I still see him as being the leader of the group)

Agent J - Men In Black (he would be alot like Campion Bond)

Lestat De Lioncourt - The Vampire Chronicles (I thought about putting a less popular vampire like Armand, but nobody is as much of an X factor then Lestat.. hes just a natural fit)

Laura Croft - Tomb Raider (she would be a rival to Indy and they would initially despise eachother)

Neville Longbottom- Harry Potter (gotta go with one of the surviving characters, Ron would be too comical, Hermoine is one female too many, and Harry is too popular.. he would obviously be an adult by the time of my league and more of a suave british type)

Clarice Starling - Silence of the Lambs/Hannibal (she would be the brains of the group and the only real person as she has no knowledge of the supernatural)

Cole Sear - The Sixth Sense (he would be a suicidal teenager in my version and in a mental institution after killing his mother)

characters I considered but decided against:
David Dunn- Unbreakable (He is the number 1 person I wish I couldve added to my league.. However I like Cole more and I dont want too many M Night Shamylan characters)
Miranda Grey - Gothika (too much like Cole Sear, only Cole is a better character)
Tyler Durden- Fight Club (however I would still include him as a villain cult leader character)
Jason Bourne- Bourne movies (He would be in there but not as a member of the league)
Beatrixx Kiddo - Kill Bill (I like her as a character but I don't see what she would add)
Ash - Evil Dead

reply

V - V for Vendetta
Connor MacLeod - Highlander
Frank Martin - The Transporter
Selene - Underworld
Wolverine - X-Men
Nicholas Angel - Hot Fuzz
Jack Sparrow - Pirates of the Caribbean
