How does this rank up with other bergman movies?

I am a huge bergman fan, and I've seen the majority of his films. My favorites probably being Cries and whispers, persona, through a glass darkly, and wild strawberries. But I have not seen saraband yet and I was wondering if it is as good as his old stuff or possibly better then a some of his old stuff? Also how does it compare in terms of how depressing it is? Is it about the same as his usual? I don't like it when they are too depressing.

It's very good. In fact it's the best TV movie I ever had the pleasure to watch. It's not extremely depressing and the ending is slightly uplifting (in my opinion). Perhaps it is a good idea to watch Scenes of a marriage and maybe also From the life of Marionettes before you watch this. They all take place in the same universe (making it a somewhat inoficial trilogy) however Saraband was never confirmed as a sequel as far as I'm concerned (but it actually is a sequel in my opinion). This is where Sarabande comes in in my ranking:

1. Winter Light
2. The seventh seal
3. Persona
4. Through a glass darkly
5. Wild Strawberries
6. Fanny Och Alexander (TV Version)
7. Saraband
8. Smiles of a summer Night
9. Scenes of a mariage (Theatrical Version)
10. Autumn Sonata
11. From the life of marionettes
12. The passion of Anna
13. Cries and Whispers
14. The virgin spring
15. The Magican
16. Sawdust and Tinsel
17. The hour of the wolf
18. The Silence
19. Shame
20. Summer Interlude
21. Sommaren med Monika
22. The Rite
23. Face to Face

P.S. If you do not like it when they get too depressing try Smiles of a summer night. It's allround positive.

"Saraband" is a pretty good movie, but I believe it's nowhere near as good as "Scenes from a Marriage," which is among Bergman's best. (I confess, I saw only the TV version, and I found it deeply moving.)

I hated it, and I'm a fan of his earlier classics like seventh seal and wild strawberries. I also hated fanny & alexander, so I guess I'm not a fan of his later stuff which this movie is similar too. And I loved Scenes from a marriage too. Somehow I feel like whatever he did later is forced and trying too hard. But thats just me.
