I would like to see more evocative films like this about teenage escapism, with a similar abstract style, preferrably also made in Asia. I love the way this film was shot and editted. Please make some recommendations to me. Thanks.
shareThirteen is very similar, but american. also, in a way the anime series lain is similar in that it is about japanese middle schoolers trying to escape rl through the internet.

A Brighter Summer Day by Edward Yang. An epic about a group of teenagers living in Taiwan... Very different in visual style, but similar in other ways. Warning: this is a very long movie.

Alejandro González Iñárritu's Babel would be a good suggestion. for me the japanese storyline carried the same atmosphere as lily chou-chou. i watched it on the plane back from japan and it brought some things to light about the youth culture i was leaving behind me. but lily chou-chou is homegrown so it will always come out on top.
