i miss the old disney channel.

it was fun when they would play Sister, Sister, Even Stevens, and Boy Meets World, So Weird and Jett Jackson as well as their other shows. Now all they play is The Suite Life, Hannah Montana, That's So Raven, and The Replacements which they play so much that i've seen every single episode and it's boring to watch now. DC hardly ever plays their older DCOMs which I think were way better than the ones they are making now. Like with The Cheetah Girls and HSM, they are going way overboard with that, showing it as many times as possible.

Everything they show now has to be geared toward little kids, but some older audiences watch too. What happened to their drama movies? Some of the movies that i like are Quints, A Ring of Endless Light, and Tru Confessions. Does DC think that little kids can't handle some tear jerkers? I'm pretty sick of the usual comedy cliche movies/shows.

they need to make a classic disney channel where they show all the old shows that they had in the 90s and the early 2000s as well as the really old DCOMs form the 90s early 2000s where they had actual shows that deal with real life situations. there arent many psychic, from the future, half popstar half high school students in real life.

supernatural is my life....period

LOL. I love the last sentence. But I agree. That was the best time. I wanna cry. I mean if they aren't going to release them they should do something. Darn the dictatorship that is Disney.

The worst thing about disney is how repititive it is. They play like 10 movies, and the shows have the same annoying premise. Also, I HATE the way Zac and Cody treat girls! I'm not majorly feminist or anything, but it's horribly demeaning! like "omg, I just meet this girl at the candy shop and I got a date!" How un-realistic is that? Not that that has ever happened, but stuff like that happens on disney, a lot.

Did anyone notice pepper ann is on?? Yay for disney for bringing up a classic!

BOOOO! New-nick and *sucks*- I shall bring all my friends who agree too-

reply

Definitely too repetitive. Pepper Ann comes on? That was the best. My sister used to tease me cuz i was in middle school, wore glasses and was sort of a dork like pepper ann. i loved that toon.

I agree with the person that said Zac and Cody are so demeaning. I reeeeally miss the old DC!! They had shows that actually had a lesson in them, and were realistic! I want to email DC and tell them to make a new channel with all the good shows and movies on it! What's the name of that girl who is a singer but pretends that she is a regular person??? Oh yeah, Hannah Montana. I can't take that show!!!

reply

[deleted]

I second that! Disney is a HUGE piece of crap now. Especially the cheesy show Hannah Montana! WTF? What happened to the more meaningful movies like you mentioned!? I loved So Weird and Even Stevens. Disney has gone to the dogs!

OK OK OK.... NO disrespect to the you older people but i mean COME ON!!
I feel that these new shows are more so kids can be entertained than having to struggle to understand the situations some of the characters go trough i mean lots of little kids watch these shows. I agree that those old shows were good but i mean 1 episode of Boy Meets World they were talking about S.E.X and when the ratings are G! I am 14 and think these shows are pretti funni like my 30 year old mom was laughing at Hannah Montanna and my 53 grandma they cant be THAT bad. You people exaggerate.

reply

Really not much of an exaggeration. You gotta remember Boy meets world came on network television first. It wasn't an original disney channel show. My sister was flipping through the channels (she's in her 20s) so she grew up with even better television in my opinion. Anyway when she stopped on some kids show she said, why is there so much going on? Everything was loud and hectic and that's how alot of kids shows are these days. Like kids these days can't watch something without everything going on at once! Personally I don't like them and when I was younger I wouldn't have. But I'm not knocking them , I'm just saying there should at least be some balance. And to be honest with you there are a lot of kids dealing with such things as sex etc. Not little kids but kids your age, which is the age most of these shows center around. Shows were a lot more relatable in my opinion, and there was more variety. And like I said, most ORIGINAL Disney channel shows didn't even mention sex-I can't think of one that did. Kids do need shows that just let them be kids, but at the same time there needs to be more than just some cliche moral slapped on the end of some mediocre show.

reply

Ok but there are still some old shows that did center around real life problems a little TOO real and i disagree with the fact that kids should be growing up learning that at such an early age. And who was talking bout other shows or channels this is about DISNEY. AND do not put me with those others of wat you say my age group whose problemsdeal with sex thank u!

reply

If you reread my comment I never said that the little kids should be learning that. Also growing up I knew a lot of people, your age maybe even younger that had to deal with that kind of thing. I said SOME kids, never said it had to include YOU. Again, I was talking about another channel b/c Boy meets world didn't originally air on DISNEY, thus it wasn't made for Disney. So maybe they didn't edit it out or feel they needed to not air that ep. They usually don't show the episodes they don't feel are appropriate, it depends on what context the word was used in. By the way Disney is targeted towards kids of all ages. In the morning they still have kids shows right, really little kids and it progresses as the day goes on. Initially, my argument was for Original Disney channel shows.

Okay well this is my first post on the site ever.I have to agree with yall I hate some of the newer shows and movies.Uhhh they replay them sooo much.I do watch Hannah Montana and High school Musical, but I dont LOVE them like I loved zoog disney.Cheeta Girls are stupied.I cant stand them and Cory in the House is wayyyyyyy annoying.I miss So weird so much.I want to see it so baddd.
I want Bug Juice,Brotherly Love,The Famous Jett Jackson,In a Heartbeat,The Jersey,So Weird, and Totally Circus to come back. Totally Circus was the best show ever.My sister and I would try to do things they did on their and pretended we were in a circus. Some movies that need some air time are Under Wraps,P.U.N.K.S., The Color of Friendship,Rip Girls,The Ultimate Christmas Present(they had a maraton of Brenda Songs roles last year and this was the only one NOT shown is made me mad),The Jennie Project, and Tru Confessions. These are some of the best movies they made.I miss them.I remeber the little robot/alien characters.Bring me back my childhood memioies.I am only 14 by the way.

I personally think some of the shows on today's disney are okay, Like Life with Derek is good, and I also naturally sadie when they had that. But Boy meets world was my favorite. =) And the old disney cahnnel was great! But some of today's shows aren't that bad, jsut Hannah Montanna, The suite life, okay, half of them are.

reply

I agree. I'm older now but my nephew watches the Disney channel still and some of them are okay and others throw me off a bit.

I miss when Disney focused less on appearance (hair, makeup, clothes, etc) and more on the actual acting. Nowadays everyone thinks that a designer wardrobe, locks hairsprayed to death, and pretty makeup can disguise terrible acting, and it CAN'T.

I saw recently (as in, sometime during this summer) The Thirteenth Year, and while the acting wasn't top-notch, Oscar material, it was DAMN better than the crap they're showing now. The kids looked and acted like normal kids and - shocker - they could *actually* act. HSM musical was on a while ago and - though this is, like, my eightieth viewing of it because nothing else is ever on - I find that four minutes in, I'm so distracted by the fake hair and designer clothes that I just can't focus on the story.

Well said linterron, this is all I've been trying to say. Spot on. Now I can leave peaceably. LOL.

My favorite old Disney things:
You Wish!
The Ultimate Christmas Present
Phantom of the Megaplex
Stepsister from the Planet Weird
Alley Cats Strike
The Color of Friendship
Up, Up, and Away!
Don't Look Under the Bed (That movie freaked me out soooo much when I was a kid)
Smart House
Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century (The first one only)
So Weird (Anybody remember the possessed baby episode? My friend and I were so scared)
Halloweentown (First only again)
Brink!
Bug Juice (I love that show)
The Color of Friendship
Escape to Witch Mountain (I can't remember if this was just by Disney or was a DCOM, but it was played a lot back then, and I miss it!)

I remember when I was about 10 and my mom would threaten to cut the cable... and I would always beg her not to because i wanted to watch zoog disney. It used to be so great and the movies were worth watching. But now, I really think that they're showing movies with teh same cliche'd morals over and over again.

I just watched Tru Confessions today, and it has to be one of the best movies of disney I have ever seen. I wish they would make something like this again.

Disney seems to avoid these sort of topics that cause controversy, tears, etc. now. They didn't do that as much couple of years ago.

the old disney and the old nickelodeon was awesome
now pretty much everything is crap...icarly? hannah montana
both SUCK bring back the old classic stuff, like even stevens, rugrats, boy meets world,

the thing that sucks for me is i barely got a glimpse of the old disney,
like before it would cost money to even have zoog disney on cable but that was like 11 years ago. kinda wished they'd bring it back

reply

I agree. I think about that all the time. They had such great movies and tv shows. It could keep me entertained for hours! It pretty much started getting cheesy when I started high school (around 2003). That was when Even Stevens and Lizzie McGuire ended and they started doing shows with laugh tracks like That's so Raven and Hannah Montana.

reply

agreed agreed. Zoog Disney was the best. They brought series from other channels like In The Heartbeat. So Weird is the most daring show I've seen air on DC. I loved Even Stevens and Lizzie Mcguire.

What I don't understand is how we went from a very diverse cast in the tv shows to everyone having the same body type and hair even. All the girls looked similar and all of the guys had the same hair. The last time I saw DC, it was on commercials and I swear that all the commercials looked like the same show but with different titles.

Disney brought a lot from ABC Family but why not? They brought issues that were necessary for people to watch.

Also, the music. I used to find out about new pop stars through Disney such as Britney Spear and Backstreet Boys. But now they only play music produced by actors in their TV shows.

Also, remember after 12AM they would show Zorro or black and white disney cartoons?

I think when That's So raven aired, everything went to shows with laugh tracks. Once High School Musical aired, every movie had a music component.

It seems that DC is playing it safe all of the sudden.
