Why does Jason Lee keep wasting his talent?

Jason Lee is a REALLY talented guy. He was awesome in Almost Famous and Vanilla Sky among other things, and shows a lot of promise... i just wonder why does he have to make such crap like this and that Stealing Harvard crap.
:( it makes me sad

I'm surprised no one has mentioned his role in "Kissing a Fool." I've always been incredibly fond of Jason's performance in that movie - I think it's my favourite of all the movies he's been in...

I find it very interesting how if an actor does something "serious" he's automatically a "good actor" or doing an "excellent job", but if they happen to get a role in a less-serious movie, everyone automatically thinks they must suck (or are starting to suck).

He barely had any screen time in "Vanilla Sky". He looked and acted just like he does in every single one of his films - and his acting is pretty damn good.

Like the script or not, his acting in "A Guy Thing" IS pretty damn good. I just saw it and thought it was a hilarious movie. Sure, it's in the slapstick romantic comedy genre, but it still manages to be fresh and funny. Sure, it's a little predictable, but people LIKE predictable movies. Not every movie *should* be the next Academy Award nominee. Sometimes movies should just be light and entertaining.

And, heck, why can't a guy make a lighthearted movie that makes him a crapload of dough every once in awhile?

What I'm waiting for is that "Dreamcatcher" movie. Jason Lee looks like he'll be really good in that. I'll wait to rent "A Guy Thing". Jason Lee does rock, but after I paid to see "Stealing Harvard"...meh.

I liked him in "Big Trouble". But again, he was in a fairly small role.

If you are truly a Jason Lee fan and like his work, I recommend that you give "Mumford" a try. Great subtle movie with Lee nailing the part.

i totally agree with that list, having seen all of these. but i think enemy of the state is rather high for being in the movie for only 2 or 3 minutes. If Fletch Won ever does get made, i think it will be right up there with Mallrats. Fletch was a classic character and i think Lee is the perfect guy to bring it back to life. The only problem is that i doubt any studio will let Smith cast Lee as Fletch if "a guy thing" doesnt make any money at the box office. and yes dreamcatcher does look like a very awesome movie.

what? like in the back of a volkswagon?

It's just depressing. Lee burst onto the film scene singlehandedly saving "MallRats" an otherwise hopeless useless waste of time. Lee proved himself again in Chasing Amy, and again in movies like Dogma, Almost Famous, and Vanilla Sky. His screen presence is amazing, and you always want more of him. But now he seems to be retreating to the MallRats genre of stupid teen comedy with his last two projects, Stealing Harvard (Saw it, and was very upset) and A Guy thing, which I probably will see (I can't resist him) but if it's as god awful as it looks than, yuck. Hopefully he'll keep making Kevin Smith movies, and those dramadies that alow his talent to use its full poetential.

WHY DOES EVRYONE THINK DOGMA WAS THAT GOOD?? yes lee was ok but it's drags for so long, yes most of the actors enjoy making it but god never have dick and fart jokes been so out of place. now back to lee, of the films i've seen him in id say the best 3 are
1 Chasing Amy - banky a work of genius until they made him (and brodie) un funny in J&SBSB
2 Mallrats you - think it's bad and it is but i love it
3 Almost famous - he does the fat headed twat so well
I'm gonna see a guy thint when i can (no rush). cant wait for jersey girl though.

i think you're all in need of a serious head examination. or better yet, a rectal ream to try and find your heads. jason lee is the most overrated, underrated actor next to julia stiles. i still don't see how teenie bopper crap like '10 things i hate about you' and 'save the last dance' get such praise. i admit jason lee is a funny, likable guy. but his acting is putrid. awful! i'll tell you why he's not in a big blockbuster, he sucks! he is a one-dimensional actor with no depth, everything he says sounds contrived and read, and i have yet to see him in a role with any sort of chemistry with a character. and we won't even touch the mess that was 'a guy thing'. i really think he should hang it up, or stick to smaller roles. i'm not trying to slam him, but damn, as Donnie says in 'gone in 60 seconds' "it's not the worst thing in the world. hell i can't swim, i know i can't! so you know what i do? i kee my black ass out the pool!"

STEALING HARVARD IS HILARIOUS,but chasing any and almost famous are better

I completely agree, Jason Lee is not the greatest actor in the world, in fact i have yet to see an actor that i was just like "wow that's so REAL". Movies are supposed to be entertaining, and Jason Lee is a great entertainer, whether or not he gives a convincing performance. He's someone who people will pay to see doing what he does- whatever that is.

Julia Stiles on the other hand.. i've never liked her, she is worse than jason lee. Jason lee at least has his own character and everyone he plays is himself (which is like most actors these days). But Stiles, on the other hand, has no character; her performances just seem empty to me. I can't believe she was allowed to butcher shakespeare three times (or more that I may not know of)- especially in Hamlet, that was pathetic...

I know this is an OLD topic but Jason Lee is not wasting his talent... He chose to do those movies he wasn't requiered to... He chose it so deal with it.

He's reminds me of my best stoner buddies in high school. Maybe he was extremely high when he agreed to do this one. But I'll have to agree with others here. Ya gots to pay the billz.
